Definition of Terms Term Definition Qualifying Move A move made from one residence to another and one school district to another; the move must take place in the preceding 36 months. Economic Necessity The child and the worker move because they could not afford to stay in the current location. Recent History of Moves Must be within 36 month of the recruiter s interview; history of 2 moves that resulted in qualifying work. Soon After Within 60 days of the qualifying move* To Join/Precede When the child and worker move at different times; The worker and child must come together within 12 months.

Federal Definition Due to economic necessity; AND From one residence to another; AND From one school district to another school district, with specific exceptions: For single-district States, must be from one administrative area to another For districts of 15K+ square miles, must be a move of 20+ miles to a temporary residence
The child: -Has made a move in the last 36 months: Qualifying Move for a Child -AS a migratory agricultural worker or a migratory fisher -WITH a migratory agricultural worker or migratory fisher -TO JOIN a parent/guardian or spouse who is a migratory agricultural worker or a migratory fisher
The child: -Must be born prior to the move documented in Section III, 1 -Made the move documented in Section III, 1 Qualifying Move for a Worker The child s is no longer eligible for the MEP when: -The child turns 22 years of age -The child earns a high school diploma -The child earns a GED -The child has reached the End-of- Eligibility, 36 months after their Qualifying Arrival Date (QAD)
Keep In Mind Children must make a QUALIFYING MOVE as , with , or to join a MIGRATORY AGRICULTURAL WORKER The MIGRATORY CHILD AND MIGRATORY AGRICULTURAL WORKER have their own eligibility criteria. The child(ren) must meet the criteria of a MIGRATORY CHILD. In order to qualify as a to join move, the MIGRATORY CHILD and the MIGRATORY AGRICULTURAL WORKER must join within 12 The worker must meet the eligibility criteria of a MIGRATORY AGRICULTURAL WORKER The worker must make a QUALIFYING MOVE in the last 36 months
Eligibility is valid for 36 months. The child and the worker have separate eligibility criteria. In a recent history of moves the moves do not have to be qualifying moves (from one district to another). Children must make a qualifying move as the worker, with the worker or to join the worker. Tidbits In a to join move, the worker and child must come together within 12 months. The qualifying moves must be due to economic necessity. Only qualifying moves in the United States can be considered.
