BEGININGS Stared as a small wound care practices part time on my days off and after hours when I still was working for a hospital group. Then after a year the practise grown so much that it was not possible to see patients just on specific days or after hours. Rented rooms from a Dr just 10minutes from the hospital I been working. My partner paid the first month rent, we paid half of the second month rent and after the 3rdmonth the practises carried it overheads and rental self from the practice's income. After a year I resign and started working full time in the wound clinic and referrals come from all the surrounding doctors to us. After a year we moved to the Blouberg Medispa building in the back and is currently still have a clinic in the front of the Blouberg Medispa building which are open 5 days a week and contact details for after hours for emergencies.
HOME CARE A few people then approach us and ask if we can provide care for patients at home during the day or night and then we started looking for staff and started our Home Base section. We started with 1 to 2 patients and by word of mouth our home care grown to more than 16 full time home base patients. Some of the staff that started with us this journey are still working for us till today. With Covid we were still providing care but lost most of our contract and currently we still have 8 full time home base care patients we looking after. Some of them are still with us since the beginning of this journey.
CARE CENTRE In 2019 CPOA decided to close the frail care centre and sell the building at Riverglade Retirement Village. We approached them due to the need in our community for such a facility. We done a proposal and after a year as with the strike of Covid they let us know they accepted our proposal. The January we start hearing about the Covid epidemic and in March we went in lock down. We were terrified to think we have bought this building, and it is empty. We now sit with this huge expense and how we going to get through it, but with grace we survived and started slowly with residents from the village to fill the rooms. Currently we are a registered facility and are permitted to host 29 residents at any given time. Short- and long-term, Palliative careand post- operative care options available.
TRAINING + We are very passioned about training and believe by sharing our knowledges to our staff and other we can empower them with the skills that is needed to provide the best care possible. + We also present one day training course and 6 months full time care givers course. Students are doing practicals with us for the hours they need to completed their course from different colleges and training schools like Robert Seboko, Red Cross and other accredited facilities.
