Required Courses Include Planning 10 (4 credits) Language Arts 10, 11 and 12 (12 credits) A Mathematics 10 and 11 (8 credits) A Fine Arts and/or Applied Skills 10, 11 or 12 (4 credits) Social Studies 10 and 11 (8 credits) Science 10 and 11 (8 credits) Physical Education 10 (4 credits) Graduation Transitions (4 credits) 4 courses at the Gr. 12 level 80 credits graduation 84 credits required at REMSS Numeracy Assessment or Math 10 Provincial exam*

Graduation Transitions 12 Personal Health - 100 hours of moderate to vigorous physical activity in Grade 11 and 12 Community Connections - participate in at least 30 hours of work experience and/or community service Career and Life - complete a transition plan and present significant accomplishments Grade 12 Exit Interview and Mini Capstone

  6. Creativity Activity Service 12 Creativity continuous creative activity Activity continuous vigorous physical activity in Grade 11 and 12 Service- participate in community service where there is authentic need Career and Life not part of CAS, covered in TOK Grade 12 CAS Exit Interview

  7. University/College Admission Requirements There are always TWO TYPES of admission requirements 1. General University Admission Requirements UBC, UVIC, SFU Percentage will fluctuate year to year English 12 (new higher of the school or blended mark) 3 or 4 academic gr. 12 subjects (Geography, History, Physics, French, Chemistry, Biology, Law, Math, Calculus, Social Justice, Mandarin) Note: Gr. 12 Provincial exams for English 12 Not Psychology 12 A language at the grade 11 level (Challenge Exams) Kwantlen and UFV 2 grade 12 academics with a B, English 12

Specific Program Admission Requirements Example: UBC, SFU and UVIC Faculty of Science (% will fluctuate & available on university websites) Physics 11 and Chemistry 11 1 Gr. 12 Science (Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Geography) Pre-Calculus Math 12 Total of 3 or 4 Grade 12 Academics* Language 11 (with Uvic as an exception)

Competitive VS Non-Competitive Programs Example Competitive Non-Competitive (Open Admissions) Institution KPU UFV Program Nursing B.A in Criminology Admission Academic GPA + Recorded Date of Application (all documents submitted) Registration Entrance Average + Application date When to apply? Before the deadline When Admission opens Oct. 1st Seats in program Fill available spaces with the highest admission averages until full Continue to accept applications as space permits

Personal Education Number Nine digit number Assigned by BC Ministry of Education Located on Report Cards (top right hand side) Needed For: University Applications Accessing Provincial Exam Marks Ordering extra Dogwood Certificates/Transcripts Applying for online courses* LearnNowBC offers online courses, online tutoring, etc.

  15. University Application Process Deadlines UBC January 15, 2019 SFU. UVIC, TWU end of February Trade Schools limited spaces Kwantlen and UFV - Ongoing until spaces are filled (June 1st) Please confirm with your chosen post secondary institution When can students apply? UBC - now UFV, KPU, SFU, UVic, TRU, CapU - October 1st BCIT, most other Universities November 1st

Self Reporting Grades Post Secondary Institutions send confirmation of application by letter or email Applicant is given a student number for that school Use this for all communication IB diploma students use their predicted grades only for some Universities Self Reporting Grades Most Post Secondary Schools Use this method Don t Cheat Respect Due Dates usually March What happens to courses that are in progress?

  18. Scholarships and Financial Aid Scholarships Monetary awards for academic excellence. Other criteria such as leadership, community involvement and athletics considered Awards Monetary awards made in recognition of achievement and significant individual contributions Bursaries Grants made to students who demonstrate need. A financial statement must be included. Loans Money borrowed by a student demonstrating financial need and must be repaid. Studentaidbc is a great resource. All usually require a transcript and letter(s) of reference

  20. Scholarships and Financial Aid 3. Scholarships Sponsored by Private Organizations Information and application deadlines are ongoing 4. District Authority Scholarship Indigenous Languages and Culture, Fine Arts, Applied Design skills and Technologies, Trades, Physical Activity, International Languages, Community Services 5. Locally Sponsored Scholarships, Awards and Bursaries applied for in February of your grade 12 year (one application) Note: Make sure you have a Social Insurance Number
