R-TWT SP Protection in 11bn: Considerations and Proposals
This document discusses considerations and proposals for R-TWT SP protection in the IEEE 802.11-23/2212r0 standard, focusing on AP coordination, overlapping R-TWT SPs, STAs in a BSS, and proposals for protection mechanisms. Topics include avoiding overlap between neighboring APs, informing associated APs of OBSS R-TWT SPs, and defining elements to minimize signaling overhead.

Nov 2023 Doc.: IEEE 802.11-23/2212r0 Background MAP coordinated R-TWT SP protection has been discussed for a long time. In this contribution, we provide considerations and proposals on R-TWT SP protection in 11bn. Submission Slide 2 Xiangxin Gu (Spreadtrum)
Nov 2023 Doc.: IEEE 802.11-23/2212r0 Considerations on R-TWT SP protection 11bn APs of OBSS R-TWT SPs may be not in an ESS. They are just neighboring. Overlapped R-TWT SPs should be avoided between 2 APs that can hear from each other. If there have to be overlapped R-TWT SPs between the 2 APs, C-OFDMA and C-TDMA etc. can be candidate solutions. However, for APs not belonging to an ESS, there may be security issues. Further study is needed. STAs in a BSS may have different OBSS R-TWT SPs to protect, subject to their locations. Nov 2023 Doc.: IEEE 802.11-23/2212r0 Proposals on R-TWT SP protection in 11bn Based on the previous considerations, we propose in a BSS: A STA informs its associated AP the OBSS R-TWT SPs to protect. During each of the OBSS R-TWT SPs, The STA should not EDCA the channel to protect the OBSS R-TWT SP. The AP should not send to the STA to avoid transmission failure. The AP may send to another STA that doesn t inform the OBSS R-TWT SP. The AP broadcasts the OBSS R-TWT SPs to protect. During each of the OBSS R-TWT SPs, The AP should not EDCA the channel to protect the OBSS R-TWT SP. STAs in the BSS should not send to the AP to avoid transmission failure. RCPI of the Beacon frame sent by the AP of each OBSS R-TWT SP to protect can be added. Spatial Reuse can be studied in further. New element to describe protected periods of the OBSS R-TWT SPs can be defined to save signaling overhead. Not all information in TWT element are needed. Submission Slide 4 Xiangxin Gu (Spreadtrum)
Nov 2023 Doc.: IEEE 802.11-23/2212r0 Conclusion For OBSS R-TWT SPs protection, different locations of STAs should be taken into consideration. Submission Slide 5 Xiangxin Gu (Spreadtrum)
