Spain implemented a plan to reduce antibiotic consumption and combat antimicrobial resistance, focusing on hands-on training for farmers and veterinarians. Strategic lines were developed to achieve a 69.5% reduction in antibiotic consumption between 2014 and 2021 across various sectors, including pigs, poultry, dairy, and small animals. Implementing voluntary programs, management guidelines, and sector-specific agreements, such as the Porcine Sector agreement, Spain aims to reduce the use of critical antibiotics and set achievable goals for antibiotic management.
