Listen, Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one., Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

  8. These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart. Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Bind them as a sign on your hand and let them be a symbol on your forehead., Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your city gates.

  16. Are Gods commands a burden?

  17. Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father also loves the one born of him. This is how we know that we love God s children: when we love God and obey his commands. For this is what love for God is: to keep his commands. And his commands are not a burden 1 John 5

  18. Galatians 3 1. The Law identified sin as violations of God s will. 2. The law had a built-in expiration date. 3. The law could not give us life. 4. The law was our guardian put in charge to lead us to Christ.

  19. The civil laws were for the nation The ceremonial laws were fulfilled in Christ The moral laws are how we lived the shared common life as God s people. What do we do with the law ?

  20. What do we do with the law ? Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and most important command. The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commands. Jesus (Matthew 22)

  21. Are his commands a burden? But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted. You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness. Romans 6

  22. For this is what love for God is: to keep his commands. And his commands are not a burden. 1 John 5 We don t obey to earn God s favor. We obey because in Christ we have God s favor. We obey because obedience is freedom.
