Background to the workshop Availability and quality of cause of death data remain fundamental challenges Insufficient capacities in: medical certification of cause of death coding of causes of death (next workshop) Recommendations at meetings from Pacific Heads of Health and Pacific Heads of Planning and Statistics National and regional commitments towards monitoring and achieving health and development goals Previous MCCD training by Brisbane Accord Group partners

Objectives Provide training and training-of-trainers (ToT) on medical certification of cause of death Discuss and identify regional and individual country needs for support in technical areas to strengthen cause of death data Assist you to build proficiency in key skills required to conduct national training

  6. Expected outcomes Explain the importance of correct medical certification of cause of death Complete the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death Demonstrate the skills needed to train others Consider key strategies and actions for improving cause of death data quality
