March 4th 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm Smart Start Rowan- Virtual Trainer: Stephanie Dreyer $10 | 2 DCDEE credits March 18th 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm Smart Start Rowan In Person Trainer: Michelle Reid $Free / 2 DCDEE Credits Death and loss are a part of life that affects young children. The emotional pain of a child who has lost a loved one makes it tempting to avoid the subject or to try to distract the child. When a loss is not addressed appropriately by adults it may leave the child feeling confused or promote a feeling of distrust. While we would all like to shield children from grief, the reality is that they will all experience it at one time or another. This session will define most common times of grief and loss for young children, identify stages of grief, discover ways young children react behaviorally to grief and loss, and determine ways to support children through this process. . Brushing is Fun! combines early oral health best practices and sanitation guidelines giving early care and education programs the information they need to establish a tooth-brushing routine in the classroom. Beginning when the first tooth emerges, child care administrators, caregivers, educators, and staff play an important role in young children s oral health. Brushing with fluoride toothpaste is an evidence-based best practice to prevent early childhood tooth decay and recommended in the child care setting by Caring for Our Children National Health and Safety Performance Standards and Guidelines for Early Care and Education Programs.
