I MET a girl at college and we just sparked. Now I am stuck in the middle between my girlfriend and this new girl. I am 18, my girlfriend is 17 and this new friend is 19. Me and my girl have been dating for about a year and everything was going great between us until I started college a few months back. This other girl is in my class and we got chatting on the first day. She is pretty and funny and really nice. We often go for a coffee at lunch-time and talk about college stuff. Recently she broke up with her boyfriend and was very unhappy for a few days. I tried to cheer her up and last week she said she was feeling a lot better. She thanked me for being there and supporting her through it. She gave me a kiss on my cheek and as she looked into my eyes, we both knew we felt something. I didn t kiss her back because I don t want to be a cheat. Now I cannot stop thinking about her even when I m with my girlfriend and she s noticed that something s up with me. I nearly broke up with my girlfriend last night but the last thing I want is to make her unhappy. I don t know what to do.
DEIDRE SAYS: You are young and so changing rapidly. Just because you ve not had a mega falling out with your girlfriend, it doesn t mean you are not ready to move on. You are smitten with this new girl and she s the one who is in your thoughts most of the time. Be honest with your girlfriend and say it s over. She will be upset but she will get over you. Maybe when you are free, you and this girl at college will get together and share romance as well as friendship, if it s what you both want. But keep in mind that you may have a few romances before you meet the right girl for you to settle down with.
