Focus on Health and Safety at Peaks & Plains Paul Crossland, Health and Safety Manager July 2021
14 July 2021 A Bit About Me I joined Peaks & Plains in April 2020. I live just west of Chester, a few miles over the Welsh border, and was brought up in Wales. I ve worked in Health and Safety for 35 years, mostly in the South East of England, and most of it in the design, construction and occupation of buildings, so my career has been focused on designing it safely, building it safely, and maintaining it safely very much with the occupants in mind. I m very keen on making Peaks & Plains put safety (yours and ours) at the heart of our be a great landlord activities. We re not there yet, and we have lots still to do, but I ve seen huge improvements in the past year. 4
14 July 2021 My Promise to You If you raise a Health and Safety concern with any of us through our contact centre, we ll act upon it. If I get involved, my first priority will be ensuring your Health and Safety, and that of my colleagues. We understand our legal responsibilities but want to go further where we can; especially if it makes your life better. Our aim is to provide you with a home that is a safe place to live, and to support you if something fails. 5
14 July 2021 In Return Please tell us if something s wrong, so we can put it right. Keep all stairs, lobbies and communal areas clear, in case of an emergency evacuation. If our repairs people need to get into your home to carry out legally required safety checks (gas boiler, electrics, smoke detectors) please let them in. We waste a lot of our time trying many times to gain access to the same properties; this means our response times to other urgent jobs can be longer than necessary. Think first before doing anything in your home that could put others at risk; leave electrical work to us, recycle old newspapers rather than storing them, dispose of unwanted items that can burn or explode such as paints or thinners. 6
