  1. Why do we do certain things? What made us have the strengths or weaknesses we do? Is it my choice and my responsibility? Or am I helpless to shape my own character, behavior, and disposition?

  2. This world has more than its share of horror stories. This leaves scars, wounds, and obstacles that may never go away. Far too many people have faced such a dark history in their lives.

  3. Hebrews 12:12-13 Therefore, strengthen the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed (NKJV).

  4. Resisting the Victim Mentality In the past support was not always offered to victims. Now, the focus on victims has led to another extreme. It has become fashionable for everyone to view themselves as victims. Is this how it should be?

  5. Resisting the Victim Mentality Why would anyone want to be seen as a victim? 1. It garners sympathy. 2. It gathers allies. 3. It excuses personal responsibility.

  6. Resisting the Victim Mentality It also brings consequences: 1. Puts the focus on us. 2. Creates warring sides. 3. We excuse our own behavior. Each of us shall give account of himself to God (Rom. 14:12)

  7. Resisting the Victim Mentality It also brings consequences: 4. It minimizes the seriousness of worse things that others have suffered.

  8. Resisting the Victim Mentality Does the Bible encourage a victim mindset? The Example of Paul His Suffering (2 Cor. 11:24-26) Christ s suffering (Col. 1:24) Mercy and hope (1 Cor. 15:9; 1 Tim. 1:15-16; Rom. 8:18)

  9. Resisting the Victim Mentality Does the Bible encourage a victim mindset? The Example of Paul His Attitude (Phil. 1:15-18)

  10. Resisting the Victim Mentality Should we ignore wrongdoing? If your brother sins against you, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. (Luke 17:3b). Take heed to yourselves. (Luke 17:3a).

  11. Resisting the Victim Mentality Should we never reach out to others for encouragement? 2 Corinthians 1:3-5 We should support one another? Must we announce it with a trumpet?

  12. Resisting the Victim Mentality We are responsible for ourselves Galatians 6:4-5 You have a choice. You don t have to let life and others define you.

  13. Resisting the Victim Mentality Christians are not victims. Slaves (Rom. 6:6) Deliverance (Rom. 6:17) Liberated (Rom. 6:22) Triumph (2 Cor. 2:14) Romans 8:37-39
