Restaurant Snapper UX Design Kickoff Meeting Presentation
Imagine that you are an employee of an independent consulting firm. You have been assigned to work on a project that involves consulting with a software development company to develop a restaurant locator application. The software development company is full of experienced developers but frequently uses consultants to bring in fresh ideas and perspectives. You are responsible for designing and proposing the user experience (UX) for this new application, and the company s design department will participate in an advisory capacity. They have provided you with background information, company desires, and application requirements. Their preliminary research shows that users want the following features: The ability to search by address or GPS coordinates The ability to sort by price, distance, and cuisine A list of results with abridged details A full screen of individual restaurants with extended details In addition, the company has the following requirements: The top two spots for search results should be reserved for sponsored results. When a user is browsing in detailed mode, one sponsored result should appear every third slide. You will present your design process to the client s design department, followed by a prototype that will be presented to a group of decision making stakeholders. User Experience (UX) Design Presentation: This part of the final project centers on your interactions with the design team. Your presentation will outline the general design process, explain how you intend to approach the design, indicate which platform you will be designing for (web or mobile), and describe the deliverables they can expect.

Platform Differentiation Mobile Application Mobile Apps Responsive Website Software programs developed to run natively on a mobile device. Users download Mobile Apps from the App Store or Google Play Store. Feels like part of the phone because it can use the same animations and navigation design. Provide a more controlled user experience Take advantage of all device dependent features such as GPS, photos, video, & push notifications. More expensive to develop because of the required skills needed programming to run directly on a operating system. Require separate product for different operating systems and managing versions as new iterations are released. Websites that are accessed through a web browser on a desktop, laptop computer or a mobile device using a browser (IE, Firefox, Safari, or Chrome) Page layouts are designed to display on large and small screens. Less expensive because you can target a wider range of devices in a single implementation User can search to find website without needing to install an application. Releasing new version of the website only needs to be completed once regardless of platform user is using.
