Four Means of Judgment Only certain options to discipline a nation: Earthquakes, volcanoes, floods Covenant: God would not destroy by flood (Gen 9:8) Law: Disobedience would lead to judgment - wild beasts, war, disease, famine (Lev 26:22f) Ezekiel: most of nation destroyed by these Question: what if righteous people mixed in?
2. Three Righteous Men? Elders are disingenuous Hearts are fully committed to idolatry Reaching back to story in Gen 18 God revealed he was going to destroy Sodom Abraham is concerned (for Lot) chats to God How few/many before God would not spare city?
2. Three Righteous Men? Question like Abraham s on Elders minds God answers with example of 3 righteous men - Noah, Job, Daniel The Righteous would save only themselves
3. Saving a Remnant Some people will be saved because of mercy A thread that runs through all the passages Save remnant who will not go after false gods
Living it Seems constant repetition of the same thing They persist in idolatry, bring excuses & questions Today: can a few righteous people save everyone? NO It s about taking God seriously False prophets reassured from some truths in Law Underplayed faithfulness & obedience
