Epistle Reading: Revelations 1:4b 8
Revelations 1:4b 8 4b Grace and peace be yours from God, who is, who was, and who is to come, and from the seven spirits in front of his throne, 5 and from Jesus Christ, - the faithful witness, - the first to be raised from death and - who is also the ruler of the kings of the world.
Revelations 1:4b 8 He loves us, and by his sacrificial death he has - freed us from our sins 6 and - made us a kingdom of priests to serve his God and Father. To Jesus Christ be the glory and power forever and ever! Amen.
Revelations 1:4b 8 7 Look, he is coming on the clouds! Everyone will see him, including those who pierced him. All peoples on earth will mourn over him. So shall it be! 8 I am the first and the last, says the Lord God Almighty, who is, who was, and who is to come.
Gospel Reading: John 18:33 37
John 18:33 37 33 Pilate went back into the palace and called Jesus. Are you the king of the Jews? he asked him. 34 Jesus answered, Does this question come from you or have others told you about me? 35 Pilate replied, Do you think I am a Jew? It was your own people and the chief priests who handed you over to me. What have you done?
John 18:33 37 36 Jesus said, My kingdom does not belong to this world; if my kingdom belonged to this world, my followers would fight to keep me from being handed over to the Jewish authorities. No, my kingdom does not belong here! 37 So Pilate asked him, Are you a king, then? Jesus answered, You say that I am a king. I was born and came into the world for this one purpose, to speak about the truth. Whoever belongs to the truth listens to me.
