THE PROBLEM THE PROBLEM According to FAO report, Fall arm worms(FAW) is dangerous pest that can feed on more than 80 crops but Maize is mostly attacked, it highly damages crops and it spreads up in short time. In 2016, it has first identified in Africa in West Africa, not later in 2017 FAW have been first reported in Rwanda(Nyamagabe district) where it ravaged 15699 hectare of farmland of total 63499 hectares planted. Government of Rwanda invested much money in helping farmers to fight FAW using Soldiers and drones but still the problem persist due to the ability of FAW in attacking different variety of crops and its growth. 4/4/2025 FAW MONITORING SYSTEM 3
EXAMPLE EXAMPLE One of our participant here, has cultivated the 2.5ha of maize and was expecting to harvest 9 to 12 tones. Unfortunetely, in one week only, his hope expired due to the presence of FAW in his field. At the harvest time he got only 2 tones. SOLUTION SOLUTION Build a system which helps the farmer to monitor their farmland and this sytem notifies the farmer upon the invasion of FAW. The system is GPS based 4/4/2025 FAW MONITORING SYSTEM 5
VALUE PREPOSITION VALUE PREPOSITION This system is composed by sensors(Color and shape sensors). The system corects the information of the invasion of FAW and gives the location. The farmer gets the SMS for the presence of FAW and uses pesticide to kill it. 4/4/2025 FAW MONITORING SYSTEM 6
THE THEOPPORTUNITY OPPORTUNITY 80% of Rwandans depend on agriculture. Maize is one of the primary crop that Rwanda rely on. In Rwanda, each district has at least one industry of maize. Private investors who are willing to see the growth of production from agriculture in Rwanda. The existing system of using drones is expensive and is not easily accessed by farmers. 4/4/2025 FAW MONITORING SYSTEM 7

SALES PROJECTION SALES PROJECTION We will sell our system on 0.025$ per meter square and two time per year. This is equivalent by 500$/ha in a year. Break-even at 500 unit sales.
