It is said that Ramirez was influenced into becoming a serial killer by this cousin Mike. Mike was a Special Forces Vietnam War veteran. When he came home he always talked about killing and torturing enemies. He even showed pictures of the victims to Ramirez. Also Ramirez witnessed Mike killing his wife. By the end of the night her blood was splattered on Ramirez s face (Ramirez, n.d.).
1977- Ramirez was placed in juvenile detention for small crimes. 1982- He received a probationary sentence for marijuana possession. Ramirez moved to Los Angeles, then progressed to cocaine addiction and burglary, and cultivated an interest in weapons and Satanism. 1983- He charged for car theft and was put in jail and got out a year later.

On September 20, 1989, he was found guilty of 13 counts of murder, 5 attempted murders, 11 sexual assaults and 14 burglaries. During the penalty phase of the trial on November 7, 1989, he was sentenced to die in California's gas chamber. (Ramirez, n.d.) The trial of Richard Ram rez was one of the most difficult and longest criminal trials in American history. (Ramirez, n.d.) He was both transient and stable due to the fact that he killed twice in once place, but he was more transient.
