  2. ROLE OF THE CARIBBEAN COUNCIL OF MINISTERS CPU s existence is indicative of the need for postal development to be addressed jointly 2012 CPU Conference

Current Situation The international postal sector is increasingly moving towards a commercial logistic-network within a global context The status quo of the postal sector in the region does not synchronize with its global environment Despite the trend towards globalization, postal development in the Caribbean region is perceived within a national and not regional context which would enable it to be aligned with its strategic direction 2012 CPU Conference

Role of the Caribbean Council of Ministers In accordance with Convention Article 7 and Article 4 of the Detailed Regulations to the Convention and Protocol The Caribbean Council of Ministers of Postal Affairs is: responsible for the development of long-term strategies and policies concerning postal matters and the future of the postal industry within the Caribbean region Also required to delegate implementation of these strategies and policies to the Conference. 2012 CPU Conference

The members of the Caribbean Council of Ministers of The members of the Caribbean Council of Ministers of Postal Affairs shall ensure that: sufficient resources are available in order for the policies of their respective countries to be embodied in the CPU and shall undertake to facilitate the implementation of the CPU processes and decisions in their countries. In the execution of this task the Council is guided by its obligation to seek the best mutual interest of the member countries with regard to postal and logistic matters. 2012 CPU Conference
