Baltimore, Maryland July 15-19, 2024 Ableism on campus A student affiliated with your office goes to the student newspaper to share their frustrations with the ableism they experience on campus. They say that even the process to request accommodations is ableist. The reporter contacts you for comment. How do you want to respond? How might you feel pressured to respond? Might you feel tension in this situation? Why? How to you handle it?

Baltimore, Maryland July 15-19, 2024 Access & Success A parent contacts the President s Office because their student failed all their classes despite having legally-required accommodations that were supposed to support their success. The President s Office asks you why the accommodations failed and suggests that you do more to ensure this student passes next semester. You know graduation metrics are a high priority. How do you want to respond? How might you feel pressured to respond? Do you feel tension in these situations? Why? How do you handle it?

The event planners are comfortable with stage entry via stairs for everyone with separate ramp accommodations for graduates when needed. Wheelchair users and graduates with service animals can sit in the back because that is what is best. Interpreters and captioning is not within the budget. You believe there is a better way to achieve equity. How might you work with them to achieve higher levels of inclusion at the event?
