Routes of Drug Administration: Oral and Rectal Preference
Routes of drug administration include enteral (into the gastrointestinal tract) and parenteral (not into the gastrointestinal tract). Subjects prefer oral preparation over injections or rectal administration. Oral administration allows for systemic effects but may have a slower onset of action. Capsules, both hard and soft gelatine, are common dosage forms used for drug delivery. Understanding the various routes can optimize drug efficacy and patient comfort.
