  2. NEW PSHE CURRICULUM Three core themes: 1. Health and Wellbeing 2. Relationships (Families and people who care for me; Caring friendships; Respectful relationships; Online relationships; Being safe) 3. Living in a Diverse World This new curriculum became statutory and mandatory in September 2020, but an extension has been given until Summer 2021 before schools are expected to roll it out. Sex Education remains optional and at the discretion of the school (see Right of Withdrawal extract).

  3. EXTRACT FROM DRAFT RSE POLICY THE MAIN CHANGE

  4. OUR RSE POLICY WHY IS THIS SO IMPORTANT? Extract taken from the draft policy

  5. CONSULTATION PHASE Staff Senior Leadership Team Diocese (Church of England) Governors Selected parent group Parents across the whole school (the purpose of these meetings) Our policy has been written and has had input from a wide range of representatives throughout a long consultation process, including from Government guidance, Local Authority guidance, Church of England guidance, the Governors, the Headteacher, the Subject Coordinator (specialist), the SENCO, our whole teaching staff body and a parent consultation group. We feel this document promotes positive and healthy relationships and resilience. This is an equipping document and one that we very much welcome. (Curriculum and Teaching Governor Committee, 19/5/21)

  8. OVERVIEW (EXTRACT FROM DRAFT RSE POLICY)

  9. LESSON 3 RESOURCES FAMILIES, CONCEPTION & PREGNANCY (*CAN WITHDRAW FROM THIS) We plan to watch the BBC Teach video Sex what s it all about? (this is currently under review on the BBC website and we are unable to view this tonight). From this we would discuss: Why might an adult couple choose to have sex? Why is trust and communication so important? Why do you think the age of consent is set at 16 years old? Why might couples use protection such as condoms?

  10. REAL LOVE ROCKS RESOURCE In Years 5 & 6, we use this resource to look at how we can stay safe online. This resource helps children to understand what is healthy and unhealthy in a relationship, and contributes to safeguarding work around the issue of online grooming and sexual exploitation. It is very age appropriate and targeted for this age group.

  11. VOCABULARY Vocabulary that is specific to each Year Group is green . This builds across each year group. Vocabulary that is not directly related to the lesson content, but is appropriate to discuss in the context of the lessons e.g. when a question is asked, is amber . Vocabulary that is not related to the lesson content and is not deemed as appropriate for this age group is red , and teachers will discuss and feedback to parents as necessary. We use this as a framework for answering questions in lessons and to ensure consistency across all classes.

  12. We will try to answer as many questions as possible, but may need to contact you separately if there isn t enough time or if your question needs a more specific response. QUESTION & ANSWER TIME

  13. AND FINALLY Contact your class teacher if you have any further or more specific questions that you d like to ask. (Via Class Dojo; leave a message at the office) Our overview and a simplified version of this PowerPoint will be available to view on our school website from tomorrow onwards.
