Specific Rules and Regulations pertinent to: Pre-K, Kindergarten & 1st Grade In-house Baseball (aka Year 1 Tee-ball, Year 2 Tee-ball and Coach s Pitch)
As you prepare for the season, please keep in mind the goals of the WABL: That ALL players have an opportunity to develop as baseball players and as individuals That ALL players would learn about good sportsmanship, winning and losing in a safe environment That all umpires would develop as umpires and as individuals That parents, coaches, and other fans would have an opportunity to watch their players play and enjoy the great game of baseball
Games called due to weather Games called due to weather should be made up but not required To schedule a make-up game, work with the grade coordinator to determine an available field or do it during one of the participating team s scheduled practices.
Unique Items No umpires No keeping score No infield fly rule No bunting No more than 5 infielders (1B, 2B, 3B, SS, P) all others arranged in outfield No leading off or stealing 60 ft. baselines 46 pitcher s mound Coach s Pitch pitching coach may move closer, but no closer than 25
Game Start, Length & Time Limits Home team will be determined by a ball roll 1 player from each team will roll a ball from pitching rubber to home plate Ball closest to home plate can decide to be home or visitor The game will consist of four (4) complete innings in which 6 players (or half of lineup) of the batting lineup will bat There is a 1hr 15 min time limit from the start of the game You may play more than 4 innings, but no inning may begin after the time limit. GAUGE THE INTEREST OF YOUR PLAYERS! If they are all having fun and engaged, keep playing If interest is dwindling and you ve played 4 innings, call it good
Defense Players should be rotated to new positions each inning Each player should play both infield and outfield positions each game There is no minimum of players required in order to play a game If a team is short players, it is acceptable to forego having outfielders or a pitcher as needed Up to 3 coaches allowed in the field Coaches from both teams should help ensure the runners know where to go
Offense Pre-K Players will only bat from a tee Kindergarten Players will begin the season batting from a tee Halfway through the season, coaches should introduce pitching by a coach to advance players skill level and prepare them for next season (see Coach s Pitch notes below) Coach s Pitch Players will start by having a minimum of 5 balls pitched to them If a player struggles to hit the ball after 5 pitches, a tee may be used Note 1: Using a tee should be met with positive reinforcement that will encourage players to make contact. Reassure players that next time they bat, they will have another chance to hit a pitched ball Note 2: If a coach knows a player can hit a pitched ball well and they are not responding negatively to missing pitches, a coach may throw a few extra pitches to the player
