SCCS will be opening in Distance Learning for all Students There will be set school hours and schedule Students are expected to check in daily, attendance will be taken Students will be assessed and provided feedback There will be daily live interaction between teachers and classmates Staff will provide age appropriate student training at the start of the year to become capable Distance Learners Provide support for students performing below grade level, English learner students, and students with disabilities Hold virtual Back To School Nights and New Parent Orientations

SCCS Educational Options in 2020-21 Designed or expanded for families who are looking for an alternative to in-person instruction Anchored in grade-level standards and district curricular programs Allow for personalization and choice Include regular check-ins (depending on the program) with an SCCS credentialed teacher (Elementary Online Program includes daily classes) Require a 1-Year Commitment IEP meeting would be held to determine whether student needs could be met in the alternative placement

Special Education Services in Distance Learning Regardless of your child s educational placement, Special Education services will be provided as stated in the IEP to the extent practicable Your child s case manager and related service providers (e.g., speech therapist, etc.) will reach out to you to determine the mode of delivery Your child s educational team will collaborate to support access to general education instruction Assessments continue to be either completed remotely or put on hold until students can return to school IEP meetings will be held virtually

  7. Senate Bill 98 & Special Education SB 98 requires: That at an initial IEP or the next regularly scheduled initial IEP or the next regularly scheduled IEP meeting, A description of the means by which the individualized education program will be provided under emergency conditions, as described in Section 46392 [which enumerates emergency conditions such as fire, flood, and epidemics], in which instruction or services, or both, cannot be provided to the pupil either at the school or in person for more than 10 school days. The description shall include all of the following: (i) Special education and related services. (ii) Supplementary aids and services. (iii) Transition services, as defined in Section 56345.1 (iv) Extended school year services pursuant to Section 300.106 of Title 34 of the Code of Federal Regulations.

  8. What does this mean? We will not be holding amendment IEPs in the beginning of the year for all students Rather, you can expect communication from your child s service providers regarding how services will be delivered during this emergency condition within the first days of school At your child s next IEP meeting, the team will discuss and document the service delivery plan during emergency conditions
