Goal: Improve Attendance** Wingdale Elementary School: Morning Mingle Teachers making contact with parents on DOJO We Missed You building-wide letter Personal Nurse call Principal letters using percentage data (10%, etc.) Teachers morning greeting **Supporting Emotional/Social Behaviors
Goal: Improve Attendance Dover Elementary School: Percentage letters every 20 days Phone calls home Parent meetings Social Worker: Calls and home visits Messages in monthly Newsletter Teachers reaching out to parents on Dojo Recognize good attendance students at assembly
Goal: Improve Attendance Dover Middle School: 5, 10, 15 day Warning Letters Convert to percentage letters throughout year Phone calls home, parent meetings, referrals to Social Worker Highlighting good attendance: Attendance Stars Bulletin Board Rewards System for students who have made a turnaround Increasing teacher awareness on the importance of connecting with students
Goal: Improve Attendance Dover High School: Transition from the Warning Letters by number of days to the Percentage Letters Continue weekly attendance updates and monitoring Continue phone calls (counselors, social-worker) and parent meetings Bolster social and emotional support for Special Education students to address attendance related issues Emphasize the importance of welcoming students back to school after prolonged absence due to illness Develop and implement a teacher volunteer program ( Teach One, Reach One spearheaded by Mrs. Julie Colacchio) Expand the function of the Homework Room to include make-up work/testing for all long term absentees Consider after school privileges (ex. Open Gym) as incentives
Goal: Improve Math Instruction Wingdale Elementary School: Integrate feedback from Math Solutions Collaboration on Big Ideas and Best Practices Continue use of hands on manipulatives Application of math vocabulary Increase math discourse Vertically Aligned Discussions K-3
Goal: Improve Math Instruction Dover Elementary School: Share feedback from Math Solutions Conference Day work on program gaps Common Math vocabulary Use of manipulatives 4th and 5th grades: homogeneous grouping
Goal: Improve Math Instruction Dover Middle School: Feedback and coaching from Math Solutions Increased vertical and cross-building meeting time Data analysis from NYS tests, DIBELS, and local assessments AIS program: Continue to monitor and evaluate effectiveness
Goal: Improve Math Instruction Dover High School: Follow and implement suggestions from Math Solutions feedback Increase vertical alignment between MS and HS by allotting faculty meeting time for such work Create a common vocabulary between MS and HS for purposes of math instruction Data Analysis of Regents and Midterm exams to address gaps and re-teaching needs Create a team approach for all math Regents courses to foster collaboration and sharing of best teaching practices to meet the diverse needs of students Look into scheduling Math Student Supports throughout the day to be available for students who may need extra help Implement an additional Co-taught Math, along with separate Alg I A and B, to provide specialized instruction at varying degrees of rigor aligned with the needs of the students
Goal: Improve Student Writing Wingdale Elementary School: Continue to explore the utilization of the Writing Revolution program Language based instruction Continue to instruct three forms of writing using grade level benchmarks To continue to promote supporting writing strategies (i.e., graphic organizers, webs, editing checklist) Vertical Aligned Discussions (Rubics) K-3
Goal: Improve Student Writing Dover Elementary School: Refined grade-level expectations Collect all writing pieces with rubrics Vertical and horizontal feedback Daily (or every other) journal writing The Writing Revolution Specific modeling and peer editing Extended practice on State ELA Test type questions
Goal: Improve Student Writing Dover Middle School: Mastery Manager: Use of common rubrics, Grades 6-8. Currently converting to Google Classroom Rubrics Daily Independent Writing Exercises: Journals, Writing Into the Day , Summary Writing; NYS Common Core writing prompts FEAT (or FCEAT): Acronym created by Grades 6-8 ELA/Reading teachers to guide writing: Focus statement, (Context), Evidence, Analysis, Take time to Conclude NewsELA, Moby Max, DBQ s Increased vertical meeting time to share best practices and perform data analysis
Goal: Improve Student Writing Dover High School: Curriculum Maps include writing across all subjects and encourage interdisciplinary approaches to writing that enhance learning Continue the AVID WICOR strategies that focus on both reading and writing in all classes Provide teachers with professional development on AVID WICOR writing strategies in all subjects Vertical alignment of English and History courses - MS through HS Create a common vocabulary between MS and HS for purposes of writing instruction Vertical alignment of English and History courses to reflect Regents and AP standards and expectations Alignment of writing rubrics between MS and HS and interdepartmental
