School plays a vital role in creating environmental awareness among students. Dr. Khan Tanveer Habeeb, Assistant Professor at Marathwada College of Education in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, emphasizes the importance of educating children about major environmental issues and the objectives of environmental education. Various activities within and outside the school are suggested to enhance students' knowledge, awareness, attitudes, skills, and participation in environmental conservation.

INTRODUCTION Second home of child. Child spends his 7-8 active hours in school. Children can be sensitized towards Environmental Conservation and Protection through Environmental Education. Jawaharlal Nehru rightly remarked: The destiny of the nation are shaped in the classroom
MAJOR ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS NEEDING ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION 1. Population Explosion 2. Poor health and sanitation 3. Various Kinds of Pollution 4. Energy Crisis and Related Issues 5. Deforestation 6. Scarcity of Water 7. Soil Erosion 8. Inadequate Housing
Objectives of Environmental Education 1. Knowledge 2. Awareness 3. Attitudes 4. Skills 5. Participation
Environmental Education can be given in two ways: Environmental Environmental Education Education Activities within the Activities outside the Formal Method School Informal Method School
Activities Within the School 1. Creating Awareness about adverse effects of Pollution. 2. Arranging Class Discussions. 3. Assigning Small Group projects on Environmental Conservation Protection. 4. Arranging Guest Lecture on Environmental Awareness and Conservation 5. Conducting Poster Competitions 6. Forming Environmental Club 7. Celebrating World Environmental week
Activities Within the School 8. Preferring methods involving Learning by Doing 9. Assigning projects on Alternative sources of Energy 10. Preparing Compost from Organic waste like left over food or cutting of plants, dried leaves etc. in School 11. Forming Birds Feeder Club 12. Teaching Best out of Waste 13. Showing Television Programs /Short Films related to Environmental Conservation
Activities outside the School 1. Bringing the children closer to nature 2. Exploring the Nature 3. Organizing Field Trips 4. Visit to Sanctuaries/National parks. 5. Conducting Environmental drives 6. Emphasizing on Local Cleanliness 7. Organizing Tree Plantation Programmes
