Some key tips Annotate, highlight and write notes over your resource booklet it is yours and you can write on it! Remember all the knowledge you need is in the Figure already. Use quotation marks to select the information or use the phrase in Figure X I can see Make a table and add advantages and disadvantages for each option as you go along
What should candidates do? The mark scheme makes it clear the qualities that are needed for maximum marks DETAILED DETAILED EVIDENCE EVIDENCE RANGE RANGE BALANCE BALANCE Make extended explanations using detail from the booklet, rather than vague assertions Refer to at least 2 advantages and 2 disadvantages (costs/benefits, good/bad, positive/negative impacts) of your chosen option Refer to both people and/or environment in terms of adv./disadv. SYNOPTIC SYNOPTIC COME TO A VIEW COME TO A VIEW COUNTER COUNTER- -ARGUMENT ARGUMENT Bring in some knowledge and understanding from Topics 7 to 9 Make an overall judgment that is logically linked to the evidence you have used Explain why you have rejectedone or more options, but also consider one of its strengths.
Checklist scrutinise your work Success criteria Self-check I have written a minimum of four paragraphs two on your chosen option and one each on the rejected options I have ensured each paragraph starts with genuine assessment/judgement e.g. To some extent, option 1 is the best option for Indonesia s people and the environment in the long term as I have explained fully my thinking in each paragraph using a minimum of a chain of reason. Be careful not to be too vague. Avoid statements like it s no good for the environment , environment is getting worse , environment is being damaged these are all too vague. Instead discuss habitat destruction, ecosystem goods and services, wider ecosystem nutrient cycling etc. I have included 7 bits of PLC from the Fig booklet using either or referencing the Fig number in brackets I have reached a sophisticated conclusion which makes a judgement about the best option and uses the words of the question your answer had to select the best option for Indonesia s people & environment. Look out for how the question may differ. For example: people/environment/economy/sustainability/short-term/long-term/future Grades 5+ I have included counter-arguments. I have explained why I have rejected one or more options, but also (briefly) consider strengths of one of the rejected options. I have also included (briefly) a disadvantage of my chosen option. 13
