Seeking Creator/God

People have been seeking God ever since the memory of Him was warped or lost, some time after Eden. Men wanted God, but they wanted God in their own image, which would, of course, puts them in control and doing whatever they want without any guilt, shame, or remorse. Humans simply do not like to be interfered with/told what to do or not do! Jesus said that men loved darkness rather than light . God is light/life, but people, as a whole prefer darkness and things that lead to death! ~That is why, when we run across a man who has devoted himself to discovering who the True God is and to seek Him, is an unusual thing indeed. Think of it - there are so many options - so many claims that God is here, or that He is there. There are so many of these claims that the search for the Creator the real person of God - can become very discouraging! Most often times people just quit and become cynical proclaiming that there is no God that the search for Him a useless exercise in futility! Or,.. seeking a shortcut, they choose badly! They become mesmerized and captured by a bad and false narrative. *George Harrison the guitarist and vocalist of the famous band, The Beatles, was a victim of such a scheme! The four members of the group traveled together to India in 1968 to research eastern spirituality" and transcendental meditation, which used hallucinogenic drugs. Of course they were all for that! They were taught by a Hindu guru/teacher of eastern religious thought. Paul McCartney, John Lennon, and Ringo Star thought it was interesting, perhaps, but they did not completely buy in to it. George, however, soon became enamored with Hinduism! He remained in India longer than the others, and applied himself to learning all that he could! When he finally went back to England and rejoined the band, he said that he was a changed man! He had found the answer! He had found peace! He had found fulfillment! His God was a key God in the Hindu Tri-unity of Brahma (the Father), and Krishna (the Son), and Vishnu (the Devil). George claimed that Krishna was his god. Now, that is very interesting because Krishna is by nature, most like the Biblical portrayal of Jesus the Christ. Krishna is the god of compassion, protection, tenderness, and love where Jesus differs from Krishna is that Krishna s love included erotic love, while Jesus love was exclusively regarding agape love, divine love, God s type of love! Ignoring Christ, Harrison wrote one of his most popular, beautiful, and widely acclaimed songs of His career when he wrote the song, My Sweet Lord , and it is a praise and worship song to Krishna! It is a beautiful song, but it will chill your blood to listen to the words! But George was not a changed man by any of this. He said he was, but his actions spoke louder than his words! He still was a philandering, selfish, vain, conflicted man, with a cruel streak! He could talk for hours of how great eastern spirituality was, but he remained essentially unchanged by his beliefs! He was a man in charge of his own life who did as he pleased, and so, inevitably, he ended up wrecking many people s lives, mostly women, and betraying their love with impunity. And now he is gone from earth dying at the relatively young age of 58 from various cancers. Some of his last known words were Everything else can wait, but the search for God cannot wait, and love one another . He saw his need, but filled it with myth and make-believe! It is just so sad that he chose a Jesus-like figure as his god, but could not give Himself over to the real Jesus! To give himself to Jesus means to die to oneself and be resurrected into a newness of life! He didn t want a completely new life, because he liked his old selfish life too much - so he had to chose an alternative - a fake god that didn t ask too much of him. The real God asked for too much trust and too much control! The real one asked for EVERYTHING, and that was too much! George was a pretty good guy who loved to be bad when he got the urge to be bad! Krishna didn t interfere with that - and Jesus did!

In the nativity narrative of the gospel of Matthew, we see some men that had come searching for the Christ! They are referred to as Kings from the east, or Magi, or Wise Men! They were both rulers and religious leaders. Their field was the dubious field of astrology! They were star-gazers! They looked for mysterious messages from God in the movements of the stars! It was about as solid a field of study as palm reading, or the casting of the bones to read the future! Yet God sent them a message in the stars! Why? Why them, and not others that were (and are) seeking for God by unconventional and illegitimate means? That is an unanswerable question. Except,.. we do understanding that God knows the heart and all it s thoughts and intentions. It seems that in the providence of God, everyone has a chance to respond to the evidence that God has provided of His existence and of His identity! But not everyone gets the same amount of evidence! In America, the message of the gospel is blasted over the radio waves multiple times on multiple frequencies every day! In most other countries, not so much! In Muslim dominated countries there is nothing! But visions and dreams of Jesus are there as in no other place in the world! But the nature of all things on earth is that there is inequity. *For example - some people have stronger bodies and better health than most other people. Is that fair? It is what is! Some people earn or inherit more money than most other people. Is that fair? It is the way of things on earth always has been, always will be! Some people are just at the right place at the right time and it leads to their success, while most people never have that life-altering moment! It is the nature of a fallen world that there is inequity deeply woven into the fabric of existence! However, there is a bottom line of evidence and information that all humans share. It begins with the wonder of creation! The wonder of life and of living things speak volumes of powerful evidence! The arguments of secularism especially evolutionary science - are unbelievably weak! A truly seeking person can and must see through it, even despite the testimony of the experts testimony given with truly religious fervor, but with no substantive scientific evidence! It is not hard to determine. If the pseudo-scientific explanation for life on earth coming into existence out of nothing a simple cell being formed through a wet chemical process - if that explanation satisfies a person, God will leave them to stew in the juices of the utter stupidity of their ridiculous pride! My belief and trust in God is that when a person responds to the powerful preponderance of evidence that He has given them - God knows of it, and He will give them more, and even stronger, evidence! I think of three other biblical incidents in the book of Acts - one where Peter was sent to a Roman centurion named Cornelius, and another where Philip was sent out into the desert, carried on the wings of the Holy Spirit (so to speak) to speak to an Ethiopian man reading and not understanding the book of Isaiah! Both men were wondrously and powerfully saved into God s family! There was also the Philippian jailor who came to the point of despair and called out to the God he did not know! And Paul and Silas, who happened to be in his prison, led both he and his entire family into faith in Christ and into the Kingdom of God!

~These Wise men of the Bibles nativity narrative were evidently powerful and wealthy men in their own right. Added to that, they were in the right place at the right time! They existed on earth when Jesus arrived here. He was the consummation of God s great plan to save the world so big things were unfolding in the plan of God during their lifetime! So - all of this was unbeknownst to these magi and kings. They were gentiles from far to the east, and almost certainly did not know of the Jewish scriptures. However, many, even most pagan narratives foretell of the coming of some kind of Messiah! I guessing that the writing of their area s pagan religion had a messianic prediction also! So they were studying the stars at the time, seeking unknowable knowledge in the movements of the stars and planets, and in this case, undoubtedly, they were totally enraptured and taken up by the sudden appearance of a comet! The appearance of comets were always thought to portend/announce the arrival of some great person on earth! But then they had to interpret this relatively rare celestial development, and translate it- somehow getting it right! Don t ask me how! But they were sincere men and God, who reads the heart read the basic honesty of their search! They were really looking for clues to answers they needed, and unlike most people, they were not willing to make anything up just to save face! They were genuine seekers of unknown knowledge of the kind one cannot find on earth so they were logically looking to the heavens, almost like a prayer to the unknown God! Now, I do not believe that there are any answers in the the palm of the hand, or in the entrails of sheep, or in the throwing of the bones. Neither are there normally Divine messages in the stars, galaxies, planets, or comets,.. except for this one time! There is no question in my mind that the Creator/God first gave them clues, and then gave them an answer - and He did it through a means that He normally despised astrology! *I talked to a man, some time ago now, who told a story of when he was a young man, back in the 1960s. He was playing around with a Ouija board one day, just for a laugh. Ouija boards proport to talk to the spirit realm and bring back answers to this earthly realm that humans cannot otherwise know. Now,.. the big thing for young people in 60s was to ask the question What is the answer? And of course, no one knew the answer to life! It eventually evolved into What is the question and no one could definitively answer that either. So this young man asked the Ouija board what the answer was. It returned to him a Name, Jesus Christ is the answer! Crazy! That s all it said! 40 years later, that man was still an agnostic trying this and trying that and still very lost! His problem was that it was actually the question that intrigued him, not the answer! I came to realize that this man didn t want the answer especially that one! But God had spoken to him by a strange means a Ouija board and had told Him what he needed to know! Maybe one day, this man will wake up and appreciate that God reached down to him - because Jesus IS the answer! ~Well God answered the wise men in the stars! The wise men were not wise in other things. Solomon wrote that The love of God is the beginning of wisdom , and these men did not know the God of the Bible, so the wise men were actually wise only because of their pursuit of the True God. They had the gods of their own land, but it wasn t enough for them! It is enough for most people, but it wasn t enough for them! That in itself made them wise where it really counted! And God gave them more light LITERALLY and their very literal spiritual journey began! When they got their answer in the stars, they gathered together a huge caravan, because they were wealthy kings, and they needed servants and tons of supplies for the journey, and lots of soldiers to protect their royal persons, their great volume of supplies, and the rich gifts they carried for the newborn King of kings! Now, I believe that each person has their memorable God-story , where the True God has spoken to them and revealed Himself. My advice to anyone within the sound of my voice is to respond to what God has already shown you! You too must give in and bend the knee to the King of kings!
