Provide opportunities for students to experience academic success while continually assessing and responding to their needs

  4. What separates these Core classes from the traditional classroom classes? SEGA Focus Reinforces higher level skills development analytical reading and writing critical thinking & problem-solving divergent thinking creative and productive thinking. Increases development of inquiry and research skills using multiple resources including technology. Small group and/or independent work.

  6. Curriculum The SEGA curriculum assures mastery of the basic knowledge and skills contained in the frameworks of the Francis Howell School District. SEGA provides an accelerated and enriched curriculum for exceptionally gifted students based on the following principles: Accelerated and extended learning through curriculum compacting when appropriate. Advanced training in critical and creative thinking and research skills required in the various academic subjects. Creative production of projects based on topics of special interest to students. Special assistance with social and emotional growth. Mainstreaming for fine arts and physical education with students their own age.

  7. 12/13 SEGA Incoming Grade 6 Middle School Plan Grade Level Communication Arts Social Studies Science Math 6 6 Challenge Geography Grade 7 Science *Pre Algebra 7 7 Pre AP Ancient Civilizations Grade 8 Science *Algebra 8 8 Pre AP US History Pre AP Physical Science (FHC)-Grade 9 *Geometry (FHC)-Grade 9 *Individual Exceptions to this plan will occur based on content ability in mathematics courses. = High School level courses attended at Francis Howell Central.

  9. Social Studies All Social Studies Courses are taught by the SEGA teacher. Grade 6: Geography Grade 7: Ancient Civilizations Grade 8: Pre AP US History

  10. Science Grade 6: Life Science (7th Grade Science) Grade 7: Earth Science (8th Grade Science) Grade 8: Physical Science (9th Grade Science at FHC)

  11. Math Grade 6: Pre Algebra (7th Grade Math) Grade 7: Algebra (8th Grade Math) Grade 8: Geometry (9th Grade Math at FHC)

  12. Electives Band/ Choir Spectra Exploratory Wheel Art, World Cultures, IT, FACS, Music Keyboarding, Speech and Drama

  13. Clubs & Activities 6th in MO in Fall 2013 -Next competition 4/24 Several SMS gifted student members on the winning FHSD MS Truman reading competition team NJHS Chess Club

  14. SEGA Outlook 2013/14 and Beyond As a district committee, we are constantly looking at the Elementary and Middle School SEGA/ Gifted programs to assess the exceptionally gifted students needs. We will continue to look at various models to find the best fit for not only our students academic needs, but also their social and emotional needs as well in order to better to prepare them to be career and college ready.
