  2. Our Mission Our mission is to protect and serve the citizens of Georgia by holding young offenders accountable for their actions through the delivery of services and sanctions in appropriate settings and by supporting youth in their communities to become productive and law-abiding citizens. 2 3/22/2025 2

  3. Senate Study Committee on Homelessness A key focus of DJJ is to provide each youth with a transitional plan. A transitional plan outlines treatment services that are appropriate for the youth while under our supervision and highlights services and opportunities for the youth as they leave our care. This plan also includes an assessment of living options as they transition out. Our goal is to transition healthy, rehabilitated and responsible youth who become productive citizens. 3 3/22/2025 3

  4. Senate Study Committee on Homelessness DJJ uses the following criteria to determine homelessness: A Sex Offender (per policy a sex offender cannot reside in the home with the victim or victim aged youth while under our supervision). A youth that has no family members that can provide a home. A youth that has signed himself or herself out of DFCS custody. 4 3/22/2025 4

  5. Senate Study Committee on Homelessness Prior to making a homeless determination, we explore other resources in the community such as family members, Independent Living programs, and the Interstate Compact for Juveniles. 5 3/22/2025 5

  6. Senate Study Committee on Homelessness If other options do not exist, we provide placements for any youth that is deemed homeless due to uncontrollable circumstances and/or if a youth s order expires. We have a small number of youth statewide that are considered homeless. These youth are often served in residential placements such as Serenity House, Goshen Valley, and Broken Shackles. 6 3/22/2025 6
