QCAA Short Course in Career Education QCAA Short Course in Career Education What will students learn? current skills and attributes options for the future. Students will complete the following assessments: spoken/signed presentation workplace interview or survey extended written response career investigation student learning journal. What are the benefits? Worth 1 QCE point Students are required to complete SETP and work experience, this rewards them for doing it.
Careers Expos Careers Expo s Thursday 19th March (Week 8) Toogoolawah Careers Expo Past Students Defence Force University s TAFE Apprenticeship Providers In Term 3 the Tertiary Studies Expo (TSXPO) will be held in Brisbane on Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th July 2019 from 10am 4pm on both days at the Brisbane Showgrounds. Admission is FREE!
Work Experience Great experience for students World Experience. Guides them in deciding if careers are really for them i.e. Vet. Can lead to Apprenticeships or Traineeships Consolidates the learning that occurs in school. Where do I go to find somewhere?
SET PLANING SET PLANING What is it? A Senior Education and Training Plan or is Plan is a key component of a school's career education program. It maps out a plan of action to put students on track for success in Senior Secondary, post-school education and work. Who is involved? A SET plan is developed by the student in partnership with school and their parents When is it? 8th 12th June (Week 8 Term 2) What's involved? Students work to develop a plan in their PDP Class (Career education). This is followed by a 30min meeting between parents, students and a school representative.
Preparation Subjects Preparation Subjects Semester 2 - Year 10 Aim: To expose student to the assessment style and requirements of General Senior Subjects. Prerequisites: Year 11 Subjects have achievable prerequisites to ensure student are committed to their learning and have chosen a suitable pathway.
The QCE The QCE Queensland Certificate of Education
What is the QCE? Awarded by the QCAA It is not a Senior Statement- it has requirements Awarded only when you meet the set requirements Recognises your achievements in Senior School Shows employers and training providers that you have worked consistently and to a high standard May be required to enrol in further education and training in Queensland, interstate and overseas
What are the Requirements? Literacy Component Numeracy Component A C grade or higher in: English English Literature English Essentials Successful completion of the Short Course Literacy A C grade or higher in: Mathematics General Mathematics Methods Mathematics Essentials Successful completion of the Short Course Numeracy

How to make good subject choices As an overall plan, it is suggested that you choose subjects: You enjoy In which you have achieved good results Which reflect your interests and abilities Which help you reach your career and employment goals Which will develop skills, knowledge and attitudes useful throughout your life.

University - ATAR The Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) will replace the Overall Position (OP) from 2020. What is the difference between the ATAR and OP? The ATAR is a finer grained rank order of students than the OP. It s a number between 0.00 and 99.95 with increments of 0.05, whereas the OP consists of 25 bands. The ATAR is commonly used in other states and territories.
Calculating ATARs Calculating ATARs The Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) will be responsible for calculating students ATARs. QTAC will calculate ATARs based on either:
Is ATAR for me? Do you want to go to University in the year after Year 12? Can you commit to an academic program of study? Being ATAR eligible does not necessarily keep your options open. You will need to study at least 4 General subjects for all of Year 11 and 12.
Can I do a SAT? Yes you can, still on a Wednesday You will need to drop a subject i.e. do 5 subjects and your traineeship Traineeships are generally worth 4 QCE Points for a Cert 2 (1 subject) 8 QCE Points for a Cert 3 (2 subjects) Doing a traineeship does not make you ATAR ineligible and does not rule you out of going to university in the future. We currently have 36 students in year 10-12 on SAT s
