Part I: Background 1. Within the scope of activities to commemorate 2019 OIC City of Tourism, relevant OIC institutions host and organize various programmes and events throughout the year. 2. The activities on commemoration of Dhaka as OIC City of Tourism 2019 include knowledge-sharing events, awareness-raising campaigns and promotional activities for the city of Dhaka. 3. As SESRIC, we decided to add a new dimension to these activities towards introducing an Award Mechanism. 4. The Award Mechanism could give a new impetus to the commemoration activities, raise awareness among relevant stakeholders, and contribute to the promotion of Dhaka as a destination in Bangladesh and OIC Member Countries. 3

Part II: Award Category In 2019 edition of the Award Mechanism, the Awards are designed to recognize successful tour operators which have contributed significantly in promotion and development of tourism in Dhaka. It is because tour operators: play key role in international tourism activities such as they develop tourism productsand promote them; work with multiple stakeholders both in public and private sectors contribute to the development of new routes or tourism markets such as by attending fairs and exhibitions. 4

Part III: Award Application Process SESRIC designed an online Survey to select successful tour operators. Applications accepted only from tour operators registered in Bangladesh. A registration system was introduced by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism of Bangladesh. No entry fee was charged before, during or after the application processfrom tour operators. The online Survey stayed open for submission between 24 July 2019 and 10 September 2019. 5

Part IV: Survey, Selection Process and Awards THE SURVEY The survey has twelve (12) questions in total with a possible maximum score of 100. It included questions on the following eight (8) dimensions: 1. Business size;(multiple choice) 2. Business diversity;(multiple choice) 3. Intra-OIC tourism;(multiple choice) 4. Internationalization; (multiple choice) 5. Sustainability;(multiple choice) 6. Multi-stakeholder cooperation;(multiple choice) 7. Muslim Friendly Tourism (MFT); (multiple choice) 8. Future business plans(open ended) 6

Part IV: Survey, Selection Process and Awards SELECTION PROCESS: Incomplete submissions were ignored in the assessment process. 8 (eight) complete submissions from the tour operators regisered in Bangladesh were received by SESRIC for the assessment process. The results were assessed by the Selection Committe at SESRIC. The short-list of the Selection Committe at SESRICwas shared with the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism of Bangladesh for validation purposes. SESRIC communicated with the selected Three Tour Operators during the last week of September 2019 by email and phone to inform them about the outcome and invite them to the Awards Ceremony of today. In the first week of October 2019, the names of the selected Three Tour Operators were made publicly available. 7

Part IV: Survey, Selection Process and Awards AWARDS: The successful three tour operators will receive a plaque along with the monetary prize: The first tour operator will receive a monetary prize of USD 5,000. The second tour operator will receive a monetary prize of USD 3,000. The third tour operator will receive a monetary prize of USD 2,000. 8
