UNIT 1: RITES OF PASSAGE PBA BY MS. SANDOVAL What rite of passage has held the most significance for you or for a person you know well?
Rite of Passage: Learning to ride a bike. When I was 6 years old, I learned to ride a 2-wheel bike without training wheels. FUTRE RITE OF PASSAGE: I will be getting my driver s license when I turn 16 years old. I will need to learn the rules of driving and practice my driving skills in my parents car! Rite of Passage: Staying home for the first time when I turned 13. My parents took the whole family to my aunt s house and I stayed home for the first time all alone. I was only alone for 2 hours, but I realized how many things I had to do for myself. 3 Rite of Passage: Finishing elementary school and moving up to Middle School. When I promoted to 7th grade, I realized that I have to be responsible for 7 classes. I had to learn my schedule and make sure I did my work for all 7 classes.
COMPARE/CONTRAST Same Different The rites of passage in Unit 1 and the one I went through are all life events that mark a specific time in my life when I grew from one age to another. My rites of passage are different than the stories because: I did not inherit a family heirloom like in the Medicine Bag I did not learn how to treat another person like in Red Roses I did not leave home to start my own life like in Nhamo in The Setting Sun and the Rolling World.
WHAT RITE OF PASSAGE HAS HELD THE MOST SIGNIFICANCE FOR YOU OR FOR A PERSON YOU KNOW WELL? The rite of passage that will be most significance to me would be getting my driver s license. When I get my driver s license, I will be on my way to becoming a young adult. A driver s license will show that I am independent enough to drive myself to my school events or help my parents with errands.
