Academic Life in the Sixth Form Academic Rigour, Extension and Achievement Academically, the Sixth Form at St Augustine's Priory is transformative; thinking independently and critically is a requisite of all subjects, and extra reading and research adds a new dimension to the curriculum. A Level Options support Upper V students are supported throughout this process. This includes: A comprehensive ISCO service comprising personal profiles, a dedicated website for research and an individual interview with a careers specialist A PSHEE programme focusing on reflection (particularly from today s sessions), developing ideas for research and specific careers-related information. A dedicated mentor from the staff to discuss both academic progress and A Level options Guidance and tailored support from subject specialists and subject examiners and moderators A Stretch and Challenge scheme for girls thinking about top tier Universities, eg. Oxbridge
A Level Options an overview Lower VI option blocks are constructed around the Upper V students preferences they are NOT pre-set blocks Girls use the advice and support given to them to thoroughly investigate the subject requirements of future career paths and courses available at University
Timeline Ongoing Support throughout the school year: Actions / Activities Timing Sep 15 Oct Sep-Dec Jan ISCO Interviews Taster Day and Sixth Form Open Evening Reflection, research and discussion GCSE Mocks Discuss results with subject teachers and assess suitability Finalise four preferred subjects for A Level. Complete options form. Discuss with Senior Form Tutor Letter from SFT to parents confirming choices Final deadline for confirming choices Option blocks published. No changes to option blocks after this time Students can change their subjects for A Level but must select subjectsfrom the published option blocks Academic Mentoring PSHE sessions centred around careers Opportunities for Q&A with current Sixth Formers 24 Feb Liaison with Form tutors, subject specialists and senior staff 11 Mar Stretch and Challenge scheme 18 Mar 21 May Miss Gandi, Mr Murphy and Ms Hales on hand to provide advice and answer questions May - Sept
New A Level Requirements: Depth and Rigour Lower VI Supporting Courses 3 or 4 A Level subjects Guided Study EPQ Stretch and Challenge scheme General RS Harvard Justice Programme PSHEE PE Upper VI 3 or 4 A Level subjects --------- This year 5 students are continuing with 4 A levels. All of them are Oxbridge applicants
Other Enrichment Our Sixth Formers were regularly attendees at the London School of Economics Public Lectures held every day during term time. Many Sixth Formers achieved certificates from UK universities after studying online courses. Value Added: Over 50% of our A2 students have achieved 2 or 3 grades above CAT predictions Most common grade at AS was A 4 pupils got 4A grades or better
UCAS and Careers Advice Our Upper VI applied to 135 different university degrees and received 122 offers - 90% success rate Each year, girls receive unconditional offers from a wide range of Russell Group Universities. All our Art Foundation applicants received offers from all their first choice colleges.
