SmartWay Transport Partnership 2 EPA s Voluntary Program to Address the Supply Chain 3,000 Partners All 100 largest truck carriers and 1K+ medium-small carriers All Class 1 Rail lines Major logistics firms Fortune 500 (and Fortune 50) shippers from every sector Since 2004, SmartWay Partners saved 16.5 million metric tons of CO2 235,000 tons NOx 9,100 tons PM 50 million barrels of oil imports 6.1 billion dollars in fuel costs Equivalent to taking over 3 million cars off the road for 1 year DRAFT - DRAFT - DRAFT

  4. Work Group Charge Make recommendations that will enable EPA to both sustain its legacy fleet programs and potentially extend SmartWay into the broader transportation supply chain. Goal: Help SmartWay partners cut fuel use and reduce emissions in goods movement while adapting to fit the changing business environment and needs of our program partners and stakeholders. Make recommendations that will enable SmartWay to maximize opportunities for program efficiencies and strategic program growth. Goal: To continue to achieve additional emissions reductions and contribute to energy independence, while meeting the needs for more partners in more modes without assuming a commensurate increase in resources.

Work Group Products Subgroup 1: Accelerate and Sustain SmartWay Broadening stakeholder base, enhance program Integrating advanced technologies, operational strategies and practices into program design Subgroup 2: Opportunities for Supply Chain fuel savings and emissions reductions in other freight modes Review tools and metrics to ensure adequate supply chain assessment methods Make recommendation on harmonizing metrics and methods Subgroup 3: Opportunities in the Nonroad sector Recommendations for using market drivers to reduce emissions from nonroad engines and vehicles
