Goals: To develop a set of recommendations that we can present to the OSAA Executive Board to help our membership schools with guidance and a comprehensive set of guidelines in the specific sport of soccer We need to remember that we are dealing with 179 schools who offer soccer and are from all scopes so we need to make it fairly simple (KISS method)
Things we know: OSAA Executive Board delayed the start of fall competition to September 23 and as of now the Fall season starts on August 17 OSAA Executive Board passed the mandated 9 days of practiced before an athlete can participate in competition. OSAA Executive Board also passed no multi- practice days (no daily doubles)
Things we know: Governor released new guidelines/ metrics for schools to have in-person education which have changed the conversations for schools. The OSAA guidelines are tied to county phase designation The surrounding states around us (Wa., Calif., Montana, and Nevada) have released their hopeful plans for sports seasons. OSAA Executive Board will be meeting on August 5 to discuss implications of the Governor s re-opening criteria.
Things we can anticipate: Other states and outside agencies will find ways to conduct athletics in the Fall- this will create issues of some type. It is possible that some school districts will be online for the entire year. We will need to make changes (again) to our last plan of September 23 starting fall competitions.
Meeting #6 Focus Question: Which state s potential plans do we like and why? Washington(4 seasons) California (2 seasons) Nevada (3 seasons)
Meeting #6 Focus Question: Are you in favor of the OSAA relaxing Practice Limitations rules to allow more coach/student contact and potentially participation in contests (if Governor and OHA allow)?
Future Meeting Dates: Thursday TBD (4:00pm 5:15pm) (Maybe August 13) Will send you the focused questions for the meeting when I send you the invitation.
