Social group work is a method of social work which helps individuals to enhance their social functioning through purposeful group experience and to cope more effectively with their personal, group or community problems (Gisela Konopka, 1963:20) Social Group Work 2 4/19/2025
Goal directed activity with small groups of people aimed at meeting socio emotional needs (treatment group) and accomplishing tasks (task group). Group work is used in social relationships within group experience as a means to individual growth and development and that the group worker is concerned in developing social responsibility and active citizenship for the improvement of democratic society (Grace Coyle, 1954:480).
