Solidarity in Hebrews God with Us We with Others
The Son is the light of Gods glory and the imprint of God s being. He maintains everything with his powerful message. After he carried out the cleansing of people from their sins, he sat down at the right side of the highest majesty. And the Son became so much greater than the other messengers, such as angels, that he received a more important title than theirs. Hebrews 1:3-4 (CEB)
It was appropriate for God, for whom and through whom everything exists, to use experiences of suffering to make perfect the pioneer of salvation. This salvation belongs to many sons and daughters whom he s leading to glory. Hebrews 2:10 (CEB)
When we carry our small suffering in solidarity with humanity s one universal longing for deep union, it helps keep us from self-pity or self- preoccupation. We know that we are all in this together. It is just as hard for everybody else, and our healing is bound up in each other s. Almost all people are carrying a great and secret hurt, even when they don t know it. This realization softens the space around our overly defended hearts. It makes it hard to be cruel to anyone. It somehow makes us one in a way that easy comfort and entertainment never can. Richard Rohr 9/22/19
However, we do see the one who was made lower in order than the angels for a little while it s Jesus! He s the one who is now crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of his death. He suffered death so that he could taste death for everyone through God s grace. Hebrews 2:9 (CEB)
Therefore, he had to be made like his brothers and sisters in every way. This was so that he could become a merciful and faithful high priest in things relating to God, in order to wipe away the sins of the people. He s able to help those who are being tempted, since he himself experienced suffering when he was tempted. Hebrews 2:17-18 (CEB)
Authentic solidarity involves a pilgrimage of voluntary displacement from our position(s) of privilege whether that be class, race, gender, physical ability, nationality, religion and appreciation for traits that our culture deems not normal or valuable. Only through relationships can I discern what kind of service is really needed, if I m the one to offer it, and whose needs I am meeting. It s not about I m helping you but We re walking and learning together. Richard Rohr Meditation: Working Together, Friday 9/20/19

For the hurt of my poor people I am hurt, I mourn, and dismay has taken hold of me. Jeremiah 8:21 (NRSV) Do not remember against us the iniquities of our ancestors; let your compassion come speedily to meet us, for we are brought very low. Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name; deliver us, and forgive our sins, for your name's sake. Psalm 79:8-9 (NRSV)
Whoever is faithful with little is also faithful with much, and the one who is dishonest with little is also dishonest with much. If you haven t been faithful with worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? If you haven t been faithful with someone else s property, who will give you your own? No household servant can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be loyal to the one and have contempt for the other. You cannot serve God and wealth. Luke 16:10-13 (CEB)
