Division is sharing into equal parts or groups. A remainder is what is left over in a division problem. 7 cannot be divided exactly into 2 groups, so each pup gets 3 bones, and there is 1 left over.
Count each value in each row. 40 3 You can do this with an adult or sibling. Tens Ones Your 4 times table knowledge could help you answer question 1b). 13 13 13 1 Leftover/remainder 40 3 = 13 r1
Some of these answers will have remainders and some will not. Use your times table knowledge to help if you get stuck. What method will you use to help you work out the answer? Can the number you are dividing be found in that particular times tables? Place value? Grouping (using circles)?
Remember your answers should be written in full sentences. They should not start with because . Has Dora seen a pattern?
Remember when completing word problems make sure you read it carefully. What digits will you be using to divide? (Remember we are looking at dividing 2 digits by 1 digit).
This is a two-step word problem. You will need to use division and another operation to solve the problem. What is the other operation you will use?
