Sooke District Age Friendly Designation Designation Acquired 1. Committee Phase Forming an Age-Friendly Committee/Team 2. Assessment Phase A Community Evaluation 3. Planning Phase Determining Challenges and Opportunities 4. Implementation Phase Putting the Plan into Action 5. Monitoring Progress The Benefits Seniors are supported to age actively, enjoy good health, and remain independent and involved in their communities. People of all ages and abilities benefit from safer, barrier-free buildings and streets, better access to local businesses and facilities, and more green spaces. Businesses benefit from the increased support and spending power of older customers, and are better able to support older workers. The community benefits from the increased participation of older adults in community life.

Age-Friendly Committee Goals 2015- 2016 1) Advocate for equal services and improved access to services for all 2) Inter-generational education and information sharing, bringing people around on an issue 3) Coordination with political authorities at all levels including First Nations and specific interest groups 4) Formalize commitments 5) Funding 6) Monitor and report changes

International Day of the Elderly Oct. 1st Celebration at Ayre Manor Mocktail party Play recordings of First Nation elders done by youth Seaparc to provide free entrance for for all seniors on that day Travelling poster regarding Sooke AF designation Suggestion: celebrate designation with a mosaic in new sidewalk in Sooke centre a collaboration between local senior and youth artists
