South Dakota Science Assessment (SDSA) South Dakota Science Assessment-Alternate (SDSA-Alt) New Test Coordinator Workshop August 30, 2017
South Dakota Science South Dakota Science Assessment (SDSA) Taken by most students in grades 5, 8 and 11 South Dakota Science Assessment-Alternate (SDSA-Alt) Taken by students who have been designated by an IEP team to have a significant cognitive disability ESSA places a 1% cap statewide on participation 1% of students eligible to test in grades 5, 8, and 11
South Dakota Science Background Information Assesses standards adopted in May, 2015 Standards to teach Disciplinary Core Ideas (DCI) of 3-dimensional standards Physical, Life, and Earth/Space Science Core content connectors developed for Alternate Elementary School Middle School High School
South Dakota Science Plan to add other 2 dimensions as test evolves Science and Engineering Practices Crosscutting Concepts Grade spans assessed at grades 5, 8, and 11 Grade 5: grades 3-5 standards Grade 8: grades 6-8 standards Grade 11: high school standards
South Dakota Science 2017 was first year of field test Results and brief student reports will be available in late fall. Data from the recent standard setting and scaling will be provided. 2018 will also be a field test year as new item types are introduced Technology Enhanced Items (TEI) Results available in Fall 2018 after 2ndround standard setting More information about the test design plan can be found here: Test Design Plan and Blueprints
South Dakota Science Important Dates 2017 Score Reports available in late fall Student information pulled from Infinite Campus in early February 2018 1-time pull so if information is not up to date in IC, it will not be up to date in SDSA or SDSA-Alt Alternate assessment students must be marked properly to be put into correct system Questar-hosted webinars in March 2018 Tech coordinators SDSA administration SDSA-Alt administration
South Dakota Science Administration site opens Mid-March 2018 Usually 2-3 weeks before test window opens Questar sends District Test Coordinator (DTC) login information to the list of Assessment Coordinators generated through the School Directory District Test Coordinator creates all other accounts needed by a district. For larger districts they can create School Test Coordinator (STC) accounts and have those individuals create all of the accounts needed by people in those particular buildings Must create Test Administrator (TA) accounts for testing
South Dakota Science Students added into system in late March Two tests, SDSA and SDSA-Alt, are in different systems Usually 1-2 weeks before test window opens All students must be added to a class to test Students can only be placed in one class Classes have to be created by District Test Coordinator (DTC)or School Test Coordinator (STC) Classes have to be linked to a test administer account to be created DTC works with SPED dept to enter accommodations for students who require them Determined by IEP team
Accommodations Accommodations must be documented on the IEP Must be used for instruction before needing for the assessment Work with Special Education staff to ensure accommodation are properly marked in the testing platform prior to assessment Text-to-speech is available this year Ensure any certified staff that will be doing the read aloud is trained Resources found at: http://doe.sd.gov/octe/SMARTERbalanced.aspx
South Dakota Science DTCs need to ensure STCs and Test Administrators are properly trained DTCs should make sure students have used practice tests to know how tools work and how to find the ancillary materials Periodic table and formula sheet for Grades 8 and 11 DTCs with colonies taking paper/pencil version must transcribe all student answers into testing system and mail all print materials back to Questar Test window opens April 2, 2018 Test window closes May 4, 2018
South Dakota Science Computer-based assessment Not Computer-adaptive Currently 1 form for each grade with question orders scrambled 60 operational items and 10 field test items for a total of 70 items Requires secure Questar browser 3 sections that take approximately 30-40 minutes each to complete
South Dakota Science-Alt Portfolio assessment that consists of statements tied to core content connectors Test Administrators rate student achievement Rater 1 must be certified SPED teacher Rater 2 any other staff who works closely with student Collection of Evidence Tool Contains rating forms and scoring rubrics for each student Rater 1 must upload 1 piece of evidence for each disciplinary core idea for a total of 3 pieces Physical, Life, and Earth/Space sciences DTCs should monitor test progress and ensure all evidence is uploaded and submitted
South Dakota Science New Item Review for SDSA Science and Special Population Educators October 5 in Sioux Falls Southeast Tech at 8 am Reimbursements Mileage, Meals, Hotel, and Substitute Teacher Link to Application: http://doe.sd.gov/Assessment/documents/17- SciEd-App.pdf More Information: http://doe.sd.gov/Assessment/SciEd-Opp.aspx Deadline to apply is September 15
