Definition The spatial qualities category covers different features of the built environment that can affect, directly or indirectly, the appeal of a neighbourhood Spatial qualities as qualities of a neighbourhood perceived by its users and influenced by spatial elements of the neighbourhood. A spatial quality may for example be walkability, which is provided by amenities located within walking distance, together with an appealing public space which invites for usage. Spatial qualities are thereby strongly influenced by perception of its users, which are influenced by individual values, attitudes, experiences, and knowledge. 2
What? - Scope and aim The spatial qualities category covers different features of the built environment that can affect, directly or indirectly, the appeal of a neighbourhood KPIs should help stakeholders involved to plan, develop, facilitate and evaluate a process that foster the participation of users and the consideration of their needs and demands within a ZEN development enables for co-creation and open innovation between stakeholders involved to realize a higher output of innovation and satisfaction but a successful process for participation of users and stakeholders must incorporated all aspects of the ZEN (energy, load, mobility, etc.). 3
How? 4
1. Demographic Analysis implemented to define the scope of the proposed development with regard to current demographic and user profiles and future trends of the neighbourhood must be aligned with the demographic profiles and trends of the larger region 5
2. Stakeholder Analysis stakeholder analysis to identify the neighbourhoods users and stakeholders that are important to include in the ZEN pilot area. Stakeholders are defined as any individuals, groups or organizations from different disciplines and with different needs, responsibilities, and resources who affect the project, or are affected by it, or show an interest in it. Users of the neighbourhood are defined within the ZEN Centre as 1) end users (e.g. citizen) and 2) professional users. 7
3. Need assessment Aim: to provide information about the needs and requirements of the users of the neighbourhood Consideration should be given to how the demographics of the community will change over the life time of the development as it is important to plan and design for adaptability and flexibility Examples from Bod ZEN Case Markedspreferanser on how to assess user needs and how a ZEN neighbourhood can address that 8
4. Consultation Plan The aim of the consultation plan is to ensure that the needs, ideas, and knowledge of the community are used to improve the quality and acceptability of the development throughout the design and construction processes and into the operation phase. The consultation plan should detail: the level of consultation for different stakeholders, when consultation will take place, and the methods that will be used. 9
What is missing and how to proceed? "Process" to be connected to several categories? Understanding leadership of process who is in charge in which phase and who feels ownership for it? Ownership of ZEN KPI tool 2021: revising process Identifying best-practice examples 10
