  1. Spiritual Disciplines Spiritual Disciplines

  2. My early experiences in a youth group included intensive Bible reading, study, prayer, and encouragement for one another. Those practices were making a difference in me without my realizing it.

  3. Think about Pauls words to his young disciple, Timothy. What are spiritual exercises and how can they be more profitable than physical exercise? 1 Timothy 4:7-8

  4. These spiritual exercises would result in godliness, a style of life which in both doctrine and practice brings one to a closer fellowship with God. --Dr. Stanley Outlaw

  5. Bible Intake Bible Intake

  6. Bible intake includes reading, hearing, studying, memorizing, and meditating upon the Word of God.

  7. No spiritual discipline is more important than the intake of God s Word. There simply is no healthy Christian life apart from a diet of the milk and meat of Scripture. --Donald J. Whitney

  8. We can allow the consumerism related to the Bible to replace the personal consumption of the Bible. --Randall Wright Church Planter in TX

  9. Personal consumption of the Bible requires that a person at least read, hear, and study the Word regularly. Then take it to heart and apply it as God directs through His Spirit.

  10. Prayer Prayer

  11. Gods expectation that we pray is clear in Scripture. When you pray Matthew 6:5-7 Luke 11:2

  12. As it is the business of tailors to make clothes and of cobblers to mend shoes, so it is the business of Christians to pray. --Martin Luther

  13. Focused prayer is needed for a meaningful relationship with the Father.

  14. Eliminating distractions enables a person to focus more on the One to whom prayer is directed. It enables the one praying to hear His responses through the ministry of His Spirit and His written Word.

  15. Faithfulness in Faithfulness in Spiritual Disciplines Spiritual Disciplines

  16. A full measure of the Word and prayer daily is indispensable in living the Spirit-filled life. --Tim Cameron

  17. Suggestions for Suggestions for Faithfulness Faithfulness 1. Ask God to direct your exercises.

  18. 2. Consider following the way Paul raced in his Christian walk. 3. Schedule time each day for focused Bible intake and prayer.

  19. We must intentionally schedule focused time with God in our daily schedules.

  20. 4. Make sure your motivation for practicing these primary disciplines is consistent with the Word itself. 5. Ask a friend to help you remain faithful.

  21. Our goal for practicing these spiritual disciplines is that we might be able to do all that God intends for us to do in the coming days and years.
