  3. I. What is the Heart? Refers to the inner man 1. Emotions Prov 15:13 - A glad heart maketh a cheerful countenance; But by sorrow of heart the spirit is broken 2. Mind Thinking Matt 9:4 - And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts? Logical Reasoning Luke 12:45 - But if that servant shall say in his heart, My Lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservant and maidservants, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken Understanding Eph 1:18 - Having the eyes of your heart enlightened, that ye may know what is the hope of his calling Belief Rom 1:10- for with the heart man believeth unto righteousness

Problem: Discouraged by Others Spies in Canaan God s Solution: Combat Discouragement with Courage (Deut. 1:21, Num 13:20) Courage: Prepared ahead of time (Deut. 1:21, Num. 13:20) Courage: Focused on the Lord, not man (Num. 13:31-33, 14:9, 8, Deut. 1:30-33) Courage: Centered on God s word (Josh. 1:6-9) Courage: An individual responsibility (Num. 13:31-33, 14:1-3, Deut. 1:28, Num. 32:9, 14:36-38, 26-29, 6-10, 30) Courage: An aid to others battling discouragement (Josh. 1:9-18)

Jesus: Good things will happen (Lk 5:6-7) Paul: It s not all about us can help others (Gal 6:9-10, 1) Paul: There is a reward (Gal 6:7-9) Hebrew writer: God is faithful to his promises (Heb 10:35, 23) Hebrew writer: Assemble with fellow Christians (Heb. 10:24- 25)
