Lesson Objectives (P3) Describe the structures and roles of three sports development providers in the UK

Leading body in the UK: committed to creating opportunities for people to start in sport, stay in sport and succeed in sport Accountable to Parliament Funded by the Exchequer & Lottery funding
SE outcomes SE want to achieve three outcomes for sport: Grow: Approximately 15% of our investment will focus on getting one million people taking part in more sport Sustain: Approximately 60% of our investment will focus on sustaining participation by improving the quality of sport, and by reducing the number of young people who stop taking part Excel Approximately 25% of our investment will focus on developing systems and pathways to nurture talented sports people.

SE work with a range of partners, including: The Youth Sport Trust, to increase sporting opportunities for children and young people UK Sport, to ensure that talent systems link seamlessly from grassroots to elite National governing bodies of sport, whose plans contribute towards the achievement of our outcomes Local authorities, the main providers of local facilities and opportunities County sports partnerships, which we will administer and fund at the national level Equality partners, to ensure we reach every community
Sport Englands Objectives: START IN SPORT: improve health of the nation especially disadvantaged groups STAY IN SPORT: through thriving network of clubs, coaches & volunteers committed to equity SUCCEED IN SPORT: an infrastructure capable of producing world-class performers
SE Active Schools Aims to provide everyschool child opportunity to learn skills & take part in sport of their choice
SE Active Schools Includes: Activemark (primary schools) Sportsmark (secondary schools) Coaching for teachers Sportsearch TOPS Programme (previous lesson 18 months to 18 years)
In 2008: 90% of primary & secondary schools pupils took part in at least 2 hours HIGH QUALITY PE every week
SE Active Sports Aims to help young people achieve more from their chosen sport by: Targeting 9 sports to encourage young people to participate and improve in and benefit from extra- curricular activities
SE Active Communities Aims to get more people from all communities, especially BMEs and other disadvantaged TARGET GROUPS to get involved in regular physical activity by: Community SDOs Sport Action Zones (SAZs)
Sports Coach UK A charitable organisation dedicated to development and implementation of coaches/coaching throughout the UK
Funded by: UK Sport Sport England Earned income
Provides: Central source of expertise Advice & support for SD partners Coach education
Many coaches are unpaid volunteers and therefore might not have access to information scUK is the only organisation in the UK dedicated to producing better coaches by: Education programmes for coaches Continuing Professional Development
It provides Support to individual coaches workshops/resources for all levels & variety of subjects Promotion of coach education Network of regional Coach Development Officers Support for Coachwise e.g. UEFA certs Coaching for Teachers scheme
