Terrie Hawthorne, MSW Ms. Hawthorne worked as an Adoption Social worker from 2003-2007 conducting comprehensive interviews with prospective adoptive parents participating in pre-placement services; monitoring the progress of adoptive families towards bonding to form a nuclear family unit. Terrie Hawthorne was born and raised in the inner city ghetto of south central Los Angeles (Watts) where she became a first generation college student and graduated with her B.S and M.S.W. Ms. Hawthorne has held a variety of positions along her career path as a professional social worker. Currently she is the full-time counselor/coordinator for the CalWORKS program at Moreno Valley College a position she s held since Fall 2011. As a therapeutic social worker Ms. Hawthorne provided individual, group & family psychotherapy and case management services to children in group homes, developed treatment plans specific to client needs & collaborated with county social workers and other professionals. Ms. Hawthorne provides academic, financial aid, personal, crisis, career counseling and supportive services for students in the CalWORKs program. Her past counseling positions include MSJC, SBVC and Norco College in EOPS/CARE, Student Athletics, First Year Experience, Veterans and General Counseling. As a Medical Social worker, from 2004-2012, worked for 3 different acute care hospitals, a medical clinic and a home health agency writing 5150 involuntary psychiatric holds, completing mental status evaluations, psychosocial assessment, crisis counseling & discharge planning. Overall Ms. Hawthorne s social work degree has provided a career options in academia, medical, mental health, and child welfare allowed her to serve as a mentor, assist with life planning, career pathway planning as well as provide crisis, personal, mental health, supportive services and grief and loss counseling for students and patients. She is also an expert in resources and referrals. Her wide range of experience, in traditional social work positions, ranges from medical, child welfare, teaching, and therapy. In 1998-2003 she worked as a CPS social worker where she investigated child abuse/neglect allegations and assessed service needs. Remove minors from home and secure appropriate placement. Provide on-going case management services and needs assessment.

About the profession The social work profession has its own body of knowledge, code of ethics, practice standards, credentials, state licensing, and a nationwide system of accredited education programs(Careers, 2012). Type of service: direct-service: help people solve and cope with problems in their everyday lives (Careers, 2012). clinical social workers: diagnose and treat mental, behavioral, and emotional issues (Careers, 2012).
