  4. COVID Guidelines

  5. Masks Distancing Attendance

  6. Facial Coverings Players will be required to wear face coverings before, during and after their games and practices per guidance from MYSA, including engagement in active play. The only type of face covering that is permissible for players is the ear-looped style face covering. Gaiters or other around the neck/head face coverings are not permitted. Masks not required for individuals that are unable to wear a face covering due to a medical condition or disability*. Players can take mask breaks when they are at least 6 from other players. Players must wear facial covering while on the bench at all times and in any huddles. If conditions are so severe as to warrant masks too dangerous to wear, the competition must be delayed, postponed or cancelled. Coaches must wear masks at all times AND maintain a distance of six (6) feet from players AT ALL times during games and practices. *Please obtain a note from the player's doctor stating that the player cannot wear a mask during play. This note should not specify any additional medical information such as the reason for not being able to wear a mask. Provide a copy of the note to the player's coach.

  7. Spectators Spectators must wear facial coverings at ALL times. As long as the field allows for 6 feet of distance, there is limit of 2 adult spectators (parent/guardian/chaperone) plus siblings per player. Spectators must maintain a distance of 6 feet at all times. Note that for grades 3 and up, no spectators are permitted at practices. Other towns may have different rules which they communicated to travel teams. ABYS coaches, players and spectators must adhere to any opposing town rules when traveling to their fields.

  8. Practice and Games As players arrive, ask how they are feeling. Send anyone home who you believe is acting or looks ill. Keep players spaced out on sidelines and at breaks Remind the players no handshakes, fist bumps or other physical contact. Ensure mask wearing at all times. Submit attendance.

  9. Other considerations Carpooling not recommended If necessary, masks should be worn and windows should be down Follow out of state travel guidelines Players and coaches who travel out of state must comply with all current Massachusetts travel orders.

  10. Attendance and COVID notifications Parents of players who test positive or are identified as close contacts should: Notify ABYS risk officer (Yana Gaber ygaber@gmail.com) If parents notify the coach, the coach should notify ABYS Risk officer Risk officer will help with How long player needs to quarantine When team can return to soccer activities Attendance Take attendance of all players and coaches at each practice and game Update weekly attendance in Google Sheet (link to be provided)

  11. Assign a COVID coordinator to your team Each team is now required, by Mass Youth Soccer, to have a COVID-19 Coordinator. Coordinator could be a parent volunteer or an assistant coach, but should be someone who is going to be available for most if not all games and practices!* The COVID-19 coordinator must complete MYSA Adult registration. Send attendance records and any questions to ABYS risk officer, Yana Gaber The ROLE of the COVID-19 Coordinator is to: Keep attendance record of every game and practice. Ensure the COVID policies (masks, social distancing) are being adhered to by the entire team. Remind spectators to socially distance and wear masks at games. *Because COVID-19 Coordinator may need to be on the spectator sideline at games, it is recommended that you find a parent volunteer who is NOT one of the team coaches

  12. Call to Action All coaches must read and understand the MYSA return to play guidelines. Schedule a meeting (Zoom?) with your team and use the 5 page presentation provided by ABYS to explain the changes this season. Sample email and meeting agenda can be found on Information for Coaches at abys.org Parent presentation can also be found on Information for Coaches at abys.org Stay positive and have fun! 19. Referees

  20. What you need to know about Zero Tolerance BAYS Zero Tolerance Levels: ZT0 No issues Everyone well behaved and positive. ZT1 Minor - Some comments. Did not disrupt enjoyment of the game by players or distract the referee(s). ZT2 Major - Significant comments. Did disrupt game. Cautions issued or should have been issued. ZT3 Severe Major distractions for the referee(s). Ejections for ZT occurred or should have. May or may not have considered terminating the game. BAYS Zero Tolerance Guidelines for Coaches: No one, except the players, is to speak to the referee(s) during the game. Exceptions: Coaches may ask questions before the game; Coaches may call for substitutions; Coaches may point out emergencies during the game; and Coaches may respond to the referee(s) if addressed. DO NOT SPEAK TO REFEREES AFTER THE GAME EXCEPT TO SAY THANK YOU

  21. Other Stuff Keep in mind ITOOTR!! It stands for In The Opinion Of The Referee . You may not agree, but it is their interpretation of the Laws of the Game (LOTG) and you must respect that no matter how hard it may be for you and how wrong they might be. If you do speak to a referee for any reason, please do so respectfully. Tone of voice can be interpreted as dissent. That is a cautionable (YC) offense under the LOTG. NOTE: Coaches can be cautioned (YC) and sent off (RC) under the LOTG. Remember that any inference to the referee s performance, even indirectly, is considered a violation of Zero Tolerance. If you really MUST ask a referee a question after the game, do it respectfully and ask if you can ask before asking. That said, we recommend that you NOT do this.

  22. Coaches Training Coaches Training Sessions on the New Laws of the Game will take place on: Monday March 22 7:30 PM Tuesday March 23 8:00 PM Wednesday March 24 7:00 PM Each session will be 60-90 minutes in length and I will go in depth as to what you can expect from officials this Spring (at least in ABYS) E-mail davemorseabysref@gmail.com if interested
