We will learn about the first Christians. We will find out about how Jesus was able to help Peter and John and learn that we can trust Jesus to help us. The children will be able to recall that the Holy Spirit was able to help the Apostles and learn how the Holy Spirit helps us. Finally the children will know about Peter s escape from prison and reflect on what we can learn from it. Curriculum Curriculum Plan Summer Term Summer Term Two Plan Two English English Issue 2 Writing: Focus text (Non-Fiction): In this unit we will read a non-fiction text about reptiles. We will explore: an information report, using a mind map to record information, recognise how headings help the reader and learn about non-chronological texts. We will discover more about verbs and tenses, and how adjectives are used in expanded noun phrases in non-fiction texts. Writing: Focus text (Non-fiction): Cobweb Morning by June Crebbin. We will explore: writing a new poem based on a model. We will look at and discuss the structure of verses and the impact of tight, accurate choice of vocabulary and sentence structure in poems and punctuation. Spellings: In spelling we will look at words that use the possessive apostrophe, words ending in tion, the sound spelled s as in television, and suffixes ment, ness, ful, less and ly. This will cover o clock and half past times, quarter past and quarter to, finding durations of time and comparing durations of time. The second unit we will cover this half term is Mass, Capacity and Temperature. In this unit the children will learn how to compare mass, how to measure mass in grams and kg, comparing volume, millilitres and litres and temperature. Our Science topic for this half term is Little Master Chefs. This topic explores food, including making healthy food choices, and cooking various different foods. In this unit the children will find out and describe the basic needs of humans for survival and be able to describe the importance of eating the right amounts of different types of food. Our History topic for this half term is Local Heroes. In this unit the children will learn about the lives of some of the most significant people in the history of our locality. This unit will support the children in gaining an understanding of the breadth of contributions people can make in order to become significant. How to help at home How to help at home: Encourage your child to do some research on Emmeline Pankhurst and why she became a significant person. How to help at home How to help at home: Encourage your child to help you prepare a healthy meal. Music Music PE PE The unit of work this half term consolidates the learning that has occurred during the year. All the learning is focused around revisiting songs and musical activities. PE is taught by Mr Obasi This half term the unit will continue to focus non-invasion games and athletic performance. PE is Mondays along with Dance on Tuesdays PE is Mondays along with Dance on Tuesdays In dance the children will work individually, in pairs and in groups and will develop their understanding of dance terminology such as mirroring, improvisation, canon and unison. We will explore and use wheels, axles and axle holders. We will learn to distinguish between fixed and freely moving axles. How to help at home How to help at home: Encourage your child to make a product that moves. This could be with lego or any other construction materials you have available. PHSE PHSE Computing Computing In computing this half term the children will be looking at presenting data. In this unit the children will create a presentation of their class topic using the app Shadow Puppet EDU. This half term in PSHE we will be learning about having high aspirations in our unit Aiming High. We will start by discussing positive views of ourselves and will then identify how a positive attitude can help us tackle and achieve new learning challenges and improve learning outcomes.
