They will learn about Jesus teaching of prayer and have a better understanding of the Lord s Prayer. They will also learn that we can pray in different ways. The children will also visit the chapel in school each week and take part in weekly prayer and worship in class with a different reflection focus each session to coincide with the liturgical calendar. How to help at home: Encourage your child pray and discuss with them the different ways we can pray. We will explore: differentiating key plot points from those which just add additional detail, the impact of first person narrative and how dialogue is used to progress the story. We will plan, draft, edit and improve a different version of the story. Writing Focus text (Non-fiction): Mysteries Of the Universe by Colin Wilson. We will explore: the function of headings, the structure and presentation of information, cohesive devices and the language of possibility. We will plan, draft, edit and improve an historical information text. Spellings: Prefixes, homophones, Anagrams. Practise with your child reading aloud to hear the beat and rhythm of the pomes. Read with your child every night and sign their diary and have discussions with your child to check their understanding of what they have read. Maths This half term, in maths we will begin with sequencing, multiplying and dividing fractions. We will them move on to learning how to identify, compare, order and measure angles, as well as drawing, measuring and calculating angles of triangles and quadrilaterals. In addition, we will continue to focus on arithmetic each week, using arithmetic tests as a teaching tool to discuss methods and model how to approach the questions. How to help at home: Look for angles around the house and when you go out. Can your child tell you whether an angle is acute, obtuse or a right angle? Additionally, encourage. your child to practice their times tables every week. In this unit, children look at and describe the changes as humans develop to old age. Pupils draw a timeline to indicate stages in the growth and development of humans and learn about the changes experienced in puberty. Our geography unit this half term is Journeys. The children will find out about the UK s global trade links, investigating where everyday products come from and the journeys they take to our homes. This builds on work children may have done in KS1 looking at the geography of food. The children will also map the journeys taken by items, and research the pros and cons of buying local or imported goods. Look at baby photographs with your child and encourage them to observe the changes they have gone through at the different life stages of a baby to toddler to a child. Ask which stage will come next. How to help at home: Check the labels on items around the house and see if they say where in the world they have been made. PE Music Real PE Unit 3&4 This half term, our learning in Music is linked to Lean on Me by Bill Withers. As well as singing and accompanying the song with musical instruments, we will explore pulse, rhythm and pitch. In addition, we will listen to, and evaluate other songs from the genre, soul. This half term the focus is Gymnastics Coordination, strength and flexibility PE Days are Tuesdays and Thursdays Please ensure that your child has their PE in school. We will be designing and making sculptures using modelling clay and air drying clay, along with clay modelling tools. This half term, we will be using our knowledge of body parts to explain what hurts/why we don t feel well to a doctor. We will then begin learning jungle animal nouns. How to help at home: Why not visit Manchester Art Gallery The Whitworth with your child. Discuss the art and encourage them to express and explain their opinions. How to help at home: Can you find the names of some jungle animals? PSHE/RSE Children will look at current news stories, applying Catholic Social Teaching to analyse the issues and come up with ways of reaching out to others and spreading God s love in their communities. Computing In computing, our unit is, Difference www/internet The children will learn the difference between the WWW and the internet and also understand what is meant by IP address. How to help at home: Discuss with your child their day to day choices. Why do they make them? Do they do things because other people do? Discuss good and bad examples of this. How to help at home: Practice using search engines to research information. Discuss whether the information they find is reliable.
