  3. Beginning Efforts by EITS Web team EITS Web team started our remediation efforts in August 2015. A white paper was written identifying the ADA issues and a ADA Website Coordination Committee was created to share the web group s current efforts to make the State of Nevada s web sites become WCAG 2.0, Section 508 compliant. Created a website, http://ada.nv.gov Used a free tool, WAVE, to identify and understand ADA issues Worked with Brett Silver, an AT user that works for NSLA, Talking book Brett tested various templates & Smart forms in the State s Content Management System, and identified issues that needed to be remediated Example: Governor s Proclamations, Executive Orders were images and all he could read were the titles

  4. Beginning Efforts by EITS Web team .. May 2016, DOE s websites that resided in the State Content Management System (CMS), were cited for non-compliance. The Department of Education, the Attorney General s office that represented DOE and the Division of Information Technology (EITS) meet to work on a solution to remediate the DOE websites. EITS purchased a remediation tool, Siteimprove, to review, scan DOE s websites, and recommend changes needed to make website compliant EITS trained DOE s webmaster, Roxanne, how to remediate their websites and documents DOE then trained 100+ DOE content users to assist in the remediation DOE continues to work with OCR to satisfy their contract obligations and make their websites complaint

  5. EITS Web teams ADA efforts Stated ADA remediation in August 2015 Created a website, http://ada.nv.gov Used a free tool, WAVE, to identify and understand ADA issues Worked with Brett Silver, an AT user that works for NSLA, Talking book Brett tested various templates & Smart forms in the State s Content Management System, and identified issues that needed to be remediated May 2016, DOE s websites that resided in the State Content Management System (CMS), were cited for non-compliance. 6. EITS Web teams ADA efforts .. May 2017, the National Federation of the Blind- Nevada sent a letter to the Governor As a result, we created a State of Nevada working committee that includes the Governor s office, EITS administration, Thomas Kearns from the Office of Disability Services at TMCC and Assistive Technology Consumers During this collaboration, EITS Web team realized by working with the Thomas Kearns and the AT Consumers, then even though a website can be ADA compliant (based on Siteimprove tool), it does not automatically mean the AT users can have a successful user experience when they use these websites. Are efforts are now focusing on providing that experience.

  7. Current Status EITS web team has been trained on ADA remediation process A State of Nevada website, http://ada.nv.gov has been created and all pertinent information regarding our ADA efforts are posted State of Nevada s Content Management System (CMS) 500 users, 142 websites which has 23,711 web pages CMS smart forms have been remediated, and Web team is working with agencies to move their existing content into these smart forms 7 websites are remediated, 31 are currently being remediated Documents & multi-media remediation is far more time consuming than web content remediation 81,284 documents, 13,857 multi-media files EITS created a training class for CMS users on how to remediate their CMS websites 29 users have taken the class, and Web team is reaching out to the customers who took the class to begin the remediation of their websites Currently, we have two people in our staff solely supporting remediation As of May 2018, we have recently acquired six more people within EITS who are helping us part-time to do nothing but document remediation

  8. Future Plans EITS web team: Seamless Docs, starting with Department of Administration & doing outreach to other departments within the State Benefits include ADA compliant on-line forms, on-line documents with signatures Budget requests for FY 2020-2021 to support ADA expansion requirements Siteimprove tool for all CMS websites Increase FTE by two Enhancements Implement a process to roll-out updates to ALL CMS websites instead of doing them one site at a time Outreach Continue our outreach efforts to all state entities within Nevada

  9. Needed Governance State Authority to move accessibility forward to non-cms websites Centralized Accessibility Authority Statewide accessibility inventory of all websites within Nevada Every state agency must have a way for users/consumers to ask for help or raise a complaint Mandatory training for ANYBODY in the state that provides content to state websites Create and maintain all state agency accessibility purchase process Yearly reporting of ADA assets State website and electronic information Technology Accessibility Legislation
