Determined to monitor governance and social safeguards for REDD+ in Nigeria, the PGA process began with consultations in Lagos in May 2011, leading to the development of a methodology and piloting in Cross River State and another state. Stakeholders at federal and state levels, including government officials, civil society actors, forest-dependent communities, academia, and media, were involved in the process. Additional activities such as participation in the Oslo Governance Forum and a Knowledge Exchange Meeting in Bogor, Indonesia, further enriched the endeavor. The PGA aims to address policy, legislation, institutional capacity, anti-corruption strategies, civil society participation, and benefit distribution related to REDD+ in Nigeria.
