WHEN? WHO? We chose to participate in the hackathon with the class 3I It was made up of 19 students (14 males and 5 females). We chose this class both because of the age of the students (around 16) and the field of study related to Information Technology. WHY? The aims of the hackathon were to: promote awareness of the phenomenon of cyberbullying (the definition of cyberbullying, the identity of the cyberbully, the framework between law and psychology and aspects such as body shaming, sexting, ghosting, catfishing ) develop awareness of the subject among students in an active and innovative way & For our school, it represented an opportunity to realize our Project Based Learning Hybrid Activity ITCS PACLE Morante, Italy Steame&Go Athens, July 2022 Project Number: 2020-1-CY01-KA226-SCH-082675
HOW? Phase 1 - online training The first phase of online training consisted of attending three webinars in synchronous and asynchronous mode. The three webinars (one of which was in English) covered the theoretical aspects of cyberbullying (i.e. the definition, the identity of the cyberbully, the general framework) ITCS PACLE Morante, Italy Steame&Go Athens, July 2022 Project Number: 2020-1-CY01-KA226-SCH-082675
Phase 1 - online training During the first online training phase, an active student team of three students was identified to interact with the speakers, either through direct interventions or by mediating peer interventions. This was requested by the organizers in order to reduce the number of connections and to allow for the privacy of participants and to facilitate the monitoring carried out by the teachers. Phase 2 - preparation for the challenge The second phase involved administering a questionnaire to students throughout the school and making a short film about the phenomenon of cyberbullying. During this phase there was a more precise definition of roles. The students were divided into groups: designers, storytellers, videomakers, audio/photo technicians and operators, ballbusters, actors, speakers. Phase 2 - the assignment of roles In the second phase, the process of the the assignment of roles was guided by the reference teachers, promoting free interaction and propositions by the students. Initially, the students discussed and shared their attitudes through the use of digital tools, taking into account the skills and their preferences to take an active and specific role in the project. The outcome The video "What if..." It tells the story of a former friend (former because of a banal misunderstanding) who, out of spite, spreads false information about her former best friend through a fake profile, triggering a series of attacks and insults that lead the protagonist, Elisa, to isolate herself. Her call for help to Roberto is underestimated and ignored, so she decides for the irreparable. But the narration also tells of another epilogue: "What would have happened if Roberto had taken the situation seriously?"
